Perhaps one of the greatest joys for me in starting Canadian Poncho site is the number of extremely rare Canadian Poncho's that have shown up on here. Roger Hornby's awesome 1966 L79 Acadian is not only rare, but it ooozes "sleeper"! We'll let Roger take it from here.
"I purchased the car from R&R Classics, in Sudbury in on Aug.18/2001. It was advertised in the Toronto Auto Trader. I brought the car home, and started the 2 year rotisserie restoration. I sandblasted everything, replaced panels, floorpans, and painted the floor with GM satin Black enamel paint, all in my 2 car garage at home. I detailed the engine, tranny, and rear axle and replaced all the front end parts with new ones. I had the chrome replated by Cambridge Chrome, and the cloth inserts in the seats were replaced with NOS material by New Image Auto Interiors in Toronto. The car was painted in pieces, by Mario Dececcio at Bissell Chev Olds in Ajax. The car was reassembled in my garage . All the weatherstripping was replaced and all brake lines are new. The car still has the original Alternator, voltage regulator, coil, rad, 3245 carb and chrome fuel line from 1966. The only things replace in the Interior were the rubber floor matting and all the cloth inserts in the 2 seats, the rest was either cleaned or redyed. I am the second registered owner of the car; R&R never had the car registered to them. I have talked to the original owner a few times. He told me a story of the delivery being delayed for a few weeks because of the radio being stolen from the car, at the dealership. That explained the broken glass I found inside the quarter panel on the drivers side. I asked him, why he ordered the car with only the L79 engine and a radio as options. He told me that he had 2 small children at the time, and couldnt afford the $250. for the 4 speed. The car was built on shift 2 on Jan 28 in Oshawa, and sold Mar 15 of 1966 at Chuck Carricks Ltd. In Tilbury Ontario. I still am looking for 2 resonators for the exhaust to complete the restoration."
That is a great story from the original owner and what a nice little hotrod he ordered up. Fantastic to see it restored so nicely, another piece of Canadian automotive history. Great job Roger.
Very Nice Choice for Car of the Month!!! NICE JOB!!!!

Super nice and Rare ride Roger! Love that "Sleeper" look. Talk about bare bones! Can you imagine this pulling up beside you at a traffic light back in the late 60's? Looks like a little 6 banger post...................until the light turned green!
Excellent story with the documentation to prove it. A perfect example of Canadian musclecar excellence!
Stunning example of perhaps the ultimate Canadian sleeper. So what does it have for a tranny? Is it three on the tree? Also, what are the little emblems on the lower front fenders behind the wheels?

A beautifull car love the post car... I have seen a few ChevyII's but not many, if any Acadians.. how many were there? you have to wonder about the 3 on the tree, how much more, was the 4 speed Do you know the original owner or the story behind the car... That would be a nice little car for 67 Heaven's new musuem... Some day, I hope to have a nice car like that.... Another good choice Todd!!
Great job. Looks really nice. Probably even better than when it was new. I may have missed this in other discussions but do you know of any other of your model existing like this with this option? Really cool. Congrats.
So what does it have for a tranny? Is it three on the tree?
I was just telling 65Camino about this car and I said to him I just assumed it was 3 on the tree given it only has two options.
What are you guys up to this afternoon?
I just checked the member's rides section for the post on this car. More pics there and yes, it does have the three on the tree and a 3.08 open 12 bolt rear end.

another well deserving car. congrads. that is the definition of a sleeper. the L79s were one of chevrolets best small blocks. no autos were available with the L79s, only the 3 or 4 speed manuals.
So what does it have for a tranny? Is it three on the tree?

I had asked about the story of the car, and I see why, the original owner didn't buy the 4 speed because of cost funny story now...
You got Baby Jane all excited to see her younger brother. Stock is beautiful (Gotta love those orginal spiral front shocks) "HOPE TO SEE YOU AT THE INVADER FAMILY REUNION"
