Timmins Trip

Being in the mining business means being able to take trips to fantastic places like Timmins on a regular basis.  Now don't you go poking fun at Timmins, GM has had their cold weather testing centre there for years, it is an important cog in the GM machine!  I had a little time off last Thursday morning and Taylor55 was kind enough to play host and show me some of Timmins' automotive finest.  Sorry the pics are a little dark, flash just isn't bright enough for those large indoor warehouse shots.  First group taken inside the original storage and prep facility for Timmins Garage.wink

Being originally from that part of the country some of those cars I've seen in person. That Nomad is a super car and the 55 Pontiac is a treat ( believe it came from the Rock ).
Have probably talked to Taylor55 a few times at the cruise nites etc.
GMs cold weather test station is actually a bit north of Timmins in Kapuskasing ( usually just referred to as Kap ). Jaguar and a few others used to run cold weather testing out of Kap and Timmins - presume they still do.
But then the cold weather is why we packed it in a moved south.

I'll let Al chime in here when he can.   I saw/was told about a lot more cars than I could take pictures of, needless to say there is quite an active car community in Timmins.  Very impressive for a city of 45,000.

Hillar the pics turned out pretty good considering the lighting was poor. Hi norontcan I remember talking to you just before you retired from the mill in Iroquois Falls and moved south. Glad you found this site as I am sure there are a few people who can assist you with parts ,knowledge etc for your  Canadian cars.

The first three pics are taken in Timmins Garage's warehouse which is now used for Jim and Phil Mascioli's personal collector cars appx 10 in total. The 2 brothers and a sister are the owners of our Chevy dealership and are true old car lovers, building cars for themselves and their kids. They also provide space for a friend Paul for the building of one his camaros.

The seconds pics of Paul Richers 56 nomad are  taken in my building in a shop Paul rents from me appx 25 x 30 ft. The rest of the shop 75 x 30 is used for storage in the winter and will be used for shop work in the summer months.  There is another building appx 30x 40 which I use in the winter for storage and occasional use when my plow truck breaks down.

My collection of cars includes the 55 Pontiac  seen in the pics , another 2 dr sedan Laurentian I've owned since 1972 ,a 55 Pathfinder 2 dr stationwagon currently under construction a 1981 Z28 Camaro, 1969 Grand Prix and a 1966 C10 Chevrolet pickup. My father 83 years old,has a 1947 Plymouth Special Deluxe Coupe and my brother Neil has quite a few cars. His latest are a 1935 Studebaker Dictator with 11,000 miles and a 1939 Ford 1/2 ton pickup a National Class Winner in the US. He has quite a few more stored in a 6000 sq ft building we own a 1/2 hour from town.

Timmins has been for the last 10 years growing at a very fast pace in the collector car hobby. I think that is because our economy is still pretty strong with the price og gold staying high.

Hillar it was nice to be able to show you a few local cars and hope I can do it again in the summer and get you a better tour when the weather is more cooperable and we tour in one of my cars.

Al

Todd I'll get you some pics of the stude when the snow melts. You will like this one it is a black 4 door sedan with dual side mount spare tires. Everything is original paint chrome interior. This car is an odd one as it shares the same starting system as an Auburn called Startix. The solonoid was missing and when doing resaerch i discovered this. I was lucky enough to find one on ebay but it was no fun bidding against the Auburn people. We won the auction but had to pay a good buck for the switch.
