I think if they are both convertible they interchange. However, the rear springs are different between the two years so the appropriate spring would have to be used.

I think the frames were the same size.. but you need an el camino or another convertible frame for the "boxed" frame. with no roof you need the support in the frame for sure. or you'll fold your car after a short few months of driving. might be fun for awhile though.
Box the frame and you will be fine. I have never seen them on the net but a wrecker can provide the frame rails. The El Camino frame needs to be modified at th e rear to work but it's minor. It needs to be shortened. I have a 65 frame for sale, but I will have to check the interchange.
I have a 66 station wagon frame that came from under an El Camino ( mismatch ). Its a southern frame and is for sale. Being a station wagon its the same as a coupe, just a little longer on the back rails. Would be an easy fit under a wagon or coupe/sedan. Yep the convertible and El Camino have boxed center sections and the El Camino is a few inches longer but quite an easy job to shorten it. 64 is a stand alone year, but shares the same measurements as all 64 thru 67 of the same body style ( difference 64 vs 65/66 is a dimple in the front cross member on the later years to allow the removal of a big block starter without having to raise the motor ) 65 and 66 are identical by model 67 is stand alone as the rear top spring perches are different ( smaller ) than the other years.

I have not heard of this either, when the snow melts, im checking that one out on my car.
I know that 64 has a small triangle bracket on the bottom center of the crossmember(below oilpan). My 67 it is molded as part of the frame) not sure what year it switched over.
