Looks like you beat me to it Pete. I used my Chevy by the numbers book but I like your link, good info there. Keeping that on favorite list.

THANX GUYS. WOULD THIS BE ONE OF THE WIDER REARS OR BECAUSE IT'S AN "EARLY" PART WOULD IT STILL BE NARROW?

Its a 67 so from Axle tube flang to axle tube flange should be 54-1/4 in. The 68 and up are 55-1/4 in. So that would make it one inch narrower.

I see the KT code in the book for 66 as well. Is there some way to tell if it's 66 or 67 by the date code? I have never seen that listed anywhere if there is.

The 66 should have a flat pad with a bolt hole in the center where the bottom of the coil spring sits. The 67 has a raised mound for the bottom of the coil to sit on. Which does your's have?

The 66 and 67 diffs should be identical except for this mounting pad.

I wish the parts book had casting numbers but it doesn't. Does the Chevy by the Numbers book list it that way? I have no doubt it is correct, I had just never heard that before.

For some reason my book is lacking the casting numbers for the diff's housing's.
It list a few but not in detail, but goes more in detail on the decoding of the buildcodes. It does say there is a casting date you should compare with the build date. There must be a casting date on it. That and the style of spring purch should  help.

Chevy by the numbers has casting numbers up the wazoo but comes to the diff and kind of lame.

wonder if GM7  the 7 meaning the year of casting ?

CHECKED LAST NIGHT, HAS THE RAISED MOUNTS FOR THE SPRINGS. MEASUREMENT IS 54 1/4".
