I have recently restored my chevelle ,just got the body back . So now i have to start assembly. Ok so i am at the electrical part . I have a wiring harness from a 67 beamont will this harness work for my 67 chevelle ?? is it plug and play? i know the guages are different from a beamont to a chevelle ,but was wondering if it would work . The chevelle harness is still good but the fusebox part of it is rusted and if i cant use the beaumont one can i change the fusebox part??? Thanks in advance if anybody can help me out with this...
You will find the lengths of wires going to things like:lightswitch, wiper, etc, will be different lengths because of dash layout. the plug for the ignition switch has a different patern on the back, the basic plugs for the rest are similar. I think if i was you i would find a real chevelle one. You could swap fuse boxes, just make sure everything looks the same on the backside, then replace one wire at a time.

And does anybody know about these Painless harnesses ?? are they any good ?? looks like i may have to go down that road instead of original wiring . And if i do then i will sell all my Beaumont stuff if anyone is interested ,, 67 Beaumont- shell ,frame with 283 and powerglide. All original guages with a original Tack for beaumont. And of course the original Harnesses.. ,got the grill and the tail light pots and taillights. Thats the important stuff you need to build a Pontiac Beaumont ,the rest you can Buy from anywhere.. I am sure you guys know all about that . Also have the Pontiac emblem that goes where the clock goes in the console . Will also sell the console ,its red . If i posted this in the wrong area sorry Ken .. Its Angelo from Calgary remember i was going to buy that SD from you a couple of years ago ?Well i ended up doing a chevelle instead of the beaumont.. Still love beaumont though!!! I am in your e-mail Ken you sent me to this site.. Anyway i will provide pics if anyone is interested . I will e-mail them to Ken since i dont know where to put them on this site ..
OK. then CEMENTHAIR means when i grew up i worked with my dad in the concrete buisness became a good concrete finisher guy.. In 1985 got tired of working the hard way and went to Hair Dressing School,, became a hairdresser throughout the years did both trades and still do ..so if you need a garage pad and haircut give me a call.. Thanks..
just seen your post Beaumont guru ,i will get a chevelle harness or painless harness well sale is on then all the stuff i listed above is for sale ,oh its a custom deluxe.. thanks for the help...
i would seriously avoid any aftermarket harnesses. Except for original replacement ones. To many "universal fit" crap.
Your best bet is to find an original 67 chevelle harness in the autowrecking yards. To bad, i was just at one last week, nice original 4dr in teh yard, could have picked it up, but its about 3 hours from here. i had one last year too, but gave it to a friend, could have traded you for your beaumont harness. Dang, just bad timing.

well i do have the original harness except the fuse box is cracked on the end where the bolt holds it , and all the connects on the back are badly rusted .i have a 66 chevelle harness as well .you said i could remove the fuse block ..but you would have to solder the other fuse box on right .. looks like a lot of work .. i am not a good electric guy ,haha. So you think of those original replacement harnesses are okay then ? .Well thanks for the help anyway..
Painless is PAINFUL, Ron Francis is ok American Autowire is by far the best. I am a dealer for Painless and Autowire, and have used and sold Ron Francis as well. I just wired my 65 SD with Autowire, and although a few wires were too long . the fit and quality of the kit is awesome. It also includes extra circuit's for accessories like a/c.stereos guages etc.
I have a 1966 Beaumont 2 Door Sedan that needs under dash wiring.
So if I was to go with an American Autowire kit, do I go with the GTO wiring or the Chevelle?
The dash looks very much like a GTO dash and I would assume the GTO wiring would be closer to what is needed. Does anyone have some first hand experience here?
Some things in the dash like the ignition switch are GTO, this leads me further to going with the GTO wiring. Or is the dash a total hybrid of the two?

Yes, cool looking car!
I suspect hybrid is the right term. I would think the under dash harness is the same as GTO but the underhood will be nothing like it. I would try to find an original as suggested.

He says, he just needs the dash wiring.. Should he call Americn Autowire?
My concern is that the dash harness for a GTO my work but it has to properly mate at the bulkhead connector and the Chevelle engine harness and GTO engine harness certainly have nothing in common.

Your probably correct With so much interchanging on Chevelles and Beaus and remembering how much stuff interchanged in those days...
I would have thought that they match. I never thought of it, as GTO, matching to Chevelle.. I suppose that the part numbers, would be different, even if they did fit? What if he sent his old harness for them to copy?
The Amirican Autowire front lighting/horn/alternator harness for Chevelle went right in and connected to the fuse panel just fine. Does the GTO use a similer style fuse box? If so, the dash harness is probably close.
I think the boxes are the same as far as dimensions. My concern would be the wires not matching up at the connections. If you are willing to take some time and study diagrams for both I'm sure with some changes it would work.
This is all speculation. There is always a slight chance it's a bolt in but it would be foolhardy/risky to count on that and just plug it in.

The pic in my avatar is actually 15 years old and the car has recently come out of the body shop after 5 plus years and re-painted a dark blue, I will upload new pics when I have a chance.
American Autowire is going to pull a GTO harness and a Chevelle one and compare for me, they promised to call back, fairly helpful people to call, if you ever need to.
