Brake job tip

Thanks to Ghost Post for pointing this out to me - the adjusting screw spring that holds the bottoms of the brake shoes together needs to have maximum clearance from the star wheel of the adjusting screw assembly. It's easy to see which end goes where, but it makes a difference how it is hooked into the holes on the brake shoes. Here's the passenger side rear:

Correct -- maximum clearance:

Incorrect -- can interfere with the star wheel:

I had to redo the driver's side and deal with those censored.gif springs again, but now I know both sides will work correctly.

(It sure was easier to check which way was correct on the bench rather than on the car smile.gif )

Thanks again to Pete (Ghost Post)!

Dave

And please get that Snap-On tool, it's over $30 US from the truck guy, I was lucky (steered to it by 69 belair, another Dave smile.gif ) and got one on eBay for $10 + shipping + no tax - at any price it is worth it, I have hardly cussed since I got it biggrin.gif.
