1969 Pontiac 2+2

You know, we have all heard stories good, bad or well just BS,  Last September 2008 on kijiji Calgary.  A very small one line ad, went something like this: "1969 Pontiac 2+2 one owner radial type tires 33144 miles $price" no phone number just reply.  So I did by email, real story was contacted by his daughter (lawyer) yes car is still for sale, please reply with full name & phone number as we are conducting interviews with her 86 year old father.  We will contact you  if accepted.  Three days go by, a call was placed to my shop to contact this Lady, hence when returned call found out she was a lawyer.  Her Dad a Mr. Rocco Imbrogno, would like to meet me.  His phone was given to me, was informed to speak loudly on phone when talking to him.  After a screaming match on phone adress and time given, was informed not to be late. North East Calgary, met with Mr. Imbrogno, after 10 minutes of polite chit chat, ask to see car.  Was taken to back of house to the garage, open door all I saw was a pile of blankets, under blankets was a brand new 1969 Pontiac 2+2 in you ready for this, triple green oh my god, was it ever green.  was allowed to look at car, not touch it.  We covered it up with the same pile (14) blankets everyone put on a certain way.  Was thanked for coming over, informed that I may be contacted at a later time. Six days boys six long days, was contacted by daughter, that I had made a good impression on her and her father. They would like to meet with me, this time to meet his wife, daughter and son in law.  Time set 2 days later, I do the meet and greet.  Same as before we all now go to garage, uncover car.  This time I am allowed to touch car, open the hood, trunk and sit in it.  About 10 minutes later I am again thanked for my time, informed it was time to go and would be contacted, if I was accepted.  Now boys there was a lapse of time, 16 days to be correct.  Recieved a call from Mr. Imbrogno, (another screaming match)to come to his home that evening to meet his son.  I did so, same as before go to garage car is not covered, man that thing is green.  I am allowed to start car and retouch.  After 15 minutes of major looking, was aked if I would like to buy the car, yes I screamed, was informed by him that he was not deaf no need to holler. Said I was sorry, asked him if I could make a offer, was informed no, and that I could leave.  Said I was sorry again, could I please buy the car at his asking price.  Was told the family would talk about it on the following Sunday and decide the new owner, Then he could come over and pay for car (cash).  Got the call Sunday evening, my wife took the call and said some old guy on the phone screaming that he would like to speak with me.  I knew who it was and informed her he was not deaf and was not screaming. (got the look) and you guys know what the look is.  Took the call went there Tuesday evening (cash) and pick up a new 1969 Pontiac 2+2 in October 2008.  Car now has 33156  miles.  True story, she sits in a garage with 2 other pontiacs.  Long and short, more long, you never ever know whats out there.  Read all ads carefully.

Sorry, low miles and unrestored means old and worn out to me. 40 years old cars are still 40 years old. Ground up with photos and receipts gets me randy.

I totally agree with you Ken.  There usually is so much more of a story with those survivors.  Anyone with some skill or lots of money or a combination of both can do a restoration which I truly appreciate but when I see these survivors even if it's a purple Desoto it just perks me up to hear the story behind it.  Anyway great story Wayne and I know you are in for a lot of interesting conversation with your car.  Hope to see it some day.
