Noob from Pittsburgh, PA area

Met a few members at the GTOAA/POCI Co Vention in Dayton, OH last week. Chris & Kim Pointon (Black Acadian Conso) gave me a info about the site so I decided to join.

I always knew about the Beaumonts & the Acadians, but never knew abou the different trim levels & such. Over the years I have seen many '66-67 Beaumonts at various shows, but the smaller cars just don't show up much around these parts.

I'm a Pontiac guy at heart, but I like Chevys too. The Canadian Poncho's are right up my alley. I have a '66 Pontiac GTO & a '90 Chevy 454SS Pickup. I just finished a frame off resto on the GTO & the truck I have had since 1991. The GTO is a stock 3x2, 4spd car. The truck has a 461ci BBC (505 hp crank - 398 rwhp) with Accel DFI & a T56 Six Speed transmission. It is a two time Hot Rod Power Tour machine, one of those a Long Hauler (2007). It'll probably do it again sometime.

I look forward to visiting the forum & learning more about the Canadian Pontiacs.

Thanks, guys. York is about 4 hrs from me.

I am fascinated at all the old Canadian Ponchos on this site. I may have to get one just to be different. I know people here would be like WTF at the local cruise nights biggrin

Oh ya, when you pop the hood and there's an orange Chevy small block or big block lurking in what appears to be Pontiac body work there'll be plenty of WTF's!

Welcome to the site. Ray with his 73 Lemans gets alot of WTF's with his chevy power plant even in Canada. Imagine going south of the border.

Beautiful Goat you have there and the truck is no slough either

Welcome aboard Tod. Great looking GTO! This is the place to find that Canadian Poncho. There's quite a few for sale in the "Canadian Pontiacs for Sale" area.

It was great to meet yinz too. How was the trip back home? We left Saturday morning & hit rain about an hour into the ride home. It was beautiful once we got home, though.

Tod the ride home was not uneventful, rained until Bowling Green and then I could hear a noise in the rear. The passenger axle seal was leaking, pulled in at Perrysburg and had the rear checked. Filled with 85/90 hypoid and limped home (left @ 11:30 home @1:30 am).
The bearing , collar, race, axle and brake shoes were shot, got parts and a new axle cut and splined on Tuesday. Finished the install on Wednesday, tested and all is good again, but I may have to rob a bank to recoup the $625 the repairs cost. Oh the joys of owning an older vehicle!!!!!

Hey Tod, it was great meeting you at the Quaker Steak and Lube and welcome to our site!  The pics of your GTO restoration are great and it certainly turned out right!  Hopefully you can make it up to Ontario for one of our CP functions some time!

Chris - Sorry to hear about that. Glad to hear you & Kim made it home safely, though.

The GTO ran flawlessly until I backed into my driveway. It sounded like either a bad ujoint, or the posi took a dump ( I thought the later, but Clarence swore that the ujoint was bad). I pulled it into the garage & decided to worry about it later. Yesterday I pulled the driveshaft (wanted to pull it anyway due to a vibration in the shifter around 70mph) but the ujoint feels fine & there is no noise coming from the rear end. I decided to put it back in & take it for a ride but all is well now. I may have to take it for a long ride again to get it hot.

I agree about the joys of classic vehicle ownership, but I'd still rather have an old hooptie than the new overpriced junk that is out there.

All you other guys, I thought I would share these:

Here is a few shots of my GTO just 2.5 years ago...

That was my dad's garage. 8 months after I got the car out of there, it was struck by lightning & burnt to the ground. Here is a shot of the '64 GTO that I put back in the '66's place:

Now that was a dreadful shame. Sorry about the loss of the 64. Looks like there is nothing left to salvage other than for the crushers. Looks like you were planning on doing another restoration.

Welcome aboard. I've been to Pennsylvania many times and have had a few Rolling Rocks while there. I keep my boat across the lake (Erie) from Erie Penn. in Turkey Point Ontario. It's only 38 miles across.
