My niece the one i raised just told me she wants a mustang. She has been raised with my pontiacs and my brothers camaro. Where did i go wrong what should i do? Should i ground her put her in time out deny that i am related? My wife says it is just a faze she is going thru and it will all work out. I am just devastated. Anyone have this happen to them and what did you do. I am considering changing my name and moving away from this shame.
AlienX...Maybe get her a Canadian Poncho keychain or something. at least everytime she drives the mustang at least the keys will have poncho holding them, eventually she will return to the fold, it could be worse she might have wanted a japanese rice burner
I say, buy her the darn horse, as long as you have space for it to roam and money for oats. Just don't ever buy her a car with that name on it. One easy way to cure that urge is just let her ride in one. Believe me anyone that rides in a Mustang and still wants to buy one is possesed.
I'm in the same boat, my youngest daughter is about to get her license and wants one of them "horses" as well.... I feel the same, shes been raised around GM's, but shes gone astray.... Maybe an Intervention?

We looked at it last night. Burns oil can smell antifreeze bondo in the fenders and inside is one step above a milk crate. She told me it was more work than she wanted to deal with. I made here a deal i will fix my sunbird for here to drive and we will sell it so we have more money to look for a better car. I would really like to get her a newer car. She likes the 60's mustangs and the fox body ones. You can still get the fox pretty cheap here and they have a/c that drive in 100 degrees with no a/c nearly ended me. The kid did here research that made me proud. She check all the right things and didn't just jump on the car so there is hope yet. Also i found a 75 olds omega 4dr i have a header panel for a 76 ventura. the mind is racing.
Ok I had a new 1998 Cobra Conv. I've seen lot's of those 5.0's wrecked out, because, light car+ high horsepower + new driver = crash in the rain. I suggest the 6 instead of the 8. I don't know if the new ones are as squirrely in the rain as the older ones, but I hated driving that car in the rain.
Well at least she wants a American made car . Now days they all want imports my kids included. It make a guy want to just hang his head in shame. But on the up side at least they show a interest in cars. Its better than a kid with no interest at all.

Well, I've always been a GM guy-but my wife drives one !
I've been told that if a woman says she doesn't like a Mustang-shes not being truthful. A North Americam Icon-and its not an import ! affordable too.
My wife too, 07 ragtop, ever since day one in 1964 Mustangs have appealed to the ladies: they were stylish, they were sporty, they could be economical, you could personalixe them, they weren't too big, list price was low - then as now you have to spend a LOT of extra cash to get one that appeals to the guys, nowadays there is a $5000US premium to step up to the GT from the regular Mustang, and in years past it was LOTS of options - the big V8, the 4-speed, the gauge package, etc.
And yes it is a NA car, not a freaking import, so even if not GM (what have they done for you lately???) I'd have no remorse.
I bought a 92 FI 5.0 5-speed convert brand new, that car was the devil incarnate, got me in more trouble than I could afford at the time, don't recall driving it in the rain but it was wicked quick, I would not suggest one for a young lady.
Starting in 69 the Mustangs got bloated, you might be able to find one in good shape from earlier years because there were a zillion of them produced, but do the checking like you have "The kid did her research that made me proud" and you'll be good, there were a LOT of them made with the straight six and (1) they are not popular nowadays because everyone wants a V8, (2) they were plenty peppy, this was way before EPA, and (3) therefore you have higher odds of finding one at a reasonable price.
Good luck!
Dave
