It was bound to happen...

I took the Pontiac to the London cruise night tonight. My son and I were sitting behind the car minding our own business when a "Cruise night Lawyer" as Carl calls them comes up to the car and starts picking apart the 30 year old paint job.

It went something like this: (for simplicity we'll use toilet.gif to represent him and furious to represent me)

toilet.gif "Is this your car"

furious "Yes"

toilet.gif "I saw your car here a couple of weeks ago. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE PAINT?"

furious "It's 30 years old"

toilet.gif "Ya, but look at this (he points to a spot on the pass door) - it's blistered:

furious "Yep"

toilet.gif "WHAT caused thaaat?"

furious (wanting to say "I dunno, my time machine is broken") I don't know- maybe the primer wasn't cured before laying or perhaps a reaction to the lead work"

toilet.gif "What a shame.. Oh it's here too (pointing)"

That's all he had to say before he walked away.

Don't you just love people like this? Likely road his bicycle there or had a bondo encrusted Pinto...

Todd

Gotta hate that, Funny I was at a carshow today and a guy had a nice gold 1972 Pontiac GTO with a blister as well but I never said a word about it, here is the difference, we don't need to be told as we all know our own cars to well. His paint was 25 years old... Myself I will not enter my car to a carshow unless it is perfect which it will never be, too many knit pickers...

Hey thats all too true, I just kind of chuckle to myself.  I usually see them later in a mini van, rice rocket, or god knows what else.  With not a straight panel or some kind of scrape, ding, etc, and I know deep down inside they really wish the car at the show etc. was theirs.  But I must say this and it is soo true, locale carnut, same show with his ride, talking trash about another mans ride.  Just not right, I have seen some real tough cars at shows, but the guy or gal with it loves the thing because its theirs.  You know I love it to, because they are out with the pride and joy.  Their special car.  We all had to start somewhere.

Personally, I like to see them with all there imperfections. This post is the reason it took me 11 years to enter a car show. I always say show me your 65 SD and we will compare! Not all of us have 60000.00 to make a car perfect to put it in a show where we are the entertainment and we have to pay. It's free for them to view and make stupid comments.

I was at a show and shine this weekend in Vulcan. From a distance I seen a women leaning over my fender with what looked like her purse hanging from her neck between her and the car. Sure as heck, 2 brand new chips on the fender

my wife really gets annoyed when she see's kids putting their hands all over the cars(not mine, primer is cheap!) and the parents dont say anything. We saw a kid get a picture taken from a another kid in front of a lambourghini, kid actually leaned back on the car!! not a parent in sight. Same kid knocked the mirror with his shoulder!! I wouldent be able to afford the mirror let alone a scratch in the paint!! Also, i think those people who comment on paint or whatever should cough up the $ for the paint job then if it bothers them!! I would love to paint my car but the 5-6 grand it will cost me just aint gonna happen. I usually get the people ask if im gonna paint it, but i just say no, this is how i like it!!

We all have to start somewhere,my remark back to the guy would be and what are you driving? Who cares personally i like to see the work in progress cars being drivin still or the survivor cars that arent perfect but are still out there being used.$60000.00 perfectly restored cars are boring they have no charecter or nice little story to go with them.

I've got other work to do before it gets painted. But you know what, last Friday I was looking at a local Camaro/Firebird site who i met members from at a car show on father's day and there was my car as their "ride of the month" Pretty cool i thought, so much for it having to be anywhere near perfect, it doesn't matter to those who truly appreciate what you have.  Same goes for all of us who appreciate these old cars in general.  They don't have to be perfect to be appreciated.

Here's the link...just click on the pic of my car to see more. Someone at the show that day took all the pictures. I hadn't been on in a couple weeks so didn't even have a clue, very nice surprise i have to say.

My car

Just remember it's always a sure sign of jealousy. I quit entering car shows years ago because my blood pressure can't take these assh*les anymore. Ask them for their Judging ID and which competition judging rules they are using for criteria that allows them to openly comment on classic vehicle imperfections. When they stand there with a stunned look, politely as you can ask them to move along and keep the negative comments to themselves as you had heard about another car owner who beat the sh*t out a spectator for being rude.

My old wagon get a lot of looks and always get asked "what colour I'm gonna paint it" or "it'll be nice when its done", I'm guessing most of these people would go and "buy" a new '32 ford street rod and do nothing but polish it and maybe take it out on perfect days, other than that, they probably jump in there mini-van or SUV and live there lives dreaming of being us...LOL
As far as what colour my wagons gonna be....Someday maybe it'll have some real paint on it, but for now, I'll drive it in Primer and enjoy it. But I do pity the poor fool that has a mind to lean on or touch it, if and when it does get painted.
Bunch of Clueless S**theads....
I had a 51 Chev 2 door, and some guys cruising downtown one night, told me it would look good chopped and lowered...I told them to go buy one and do what they wanted with it, I was happy with mine the way it was....
Heres a pic of it...Totally stock 235/3 speed standard

I agree with the post laid on here... My cars are not near perfect and that is why I never enter the shows. Way too many nitpickers that have nothing to show for themselves but will pick your car down to every last nut and bolt!!! Funny peopel for sure......
As for the adults with kids...... I was at a show here, and a good thing I didn't see the kid when he walked by my car, but he was pawing every car as he went by it... Finally I had to step in when he was going down the side of a Vette. I polietly said to his mom that it was not proper to do that to another persons car especially a classic!!! Well, she looked dumbfounded as almost "why"?? They left that part of the field after that...... Good riddence...!
