I would not consider my car a project car, it is very driveable. I drive it every where, to shows to the conveniece store, wherever and it has never given me a single problem other than a puff of smoke on take off, it starts on one crank of the key every time with one pump of the excelerator, the car is a dream to drive and I love seeing everybody spinning their head around to get a look at the car when I drive by them or seeing a crowd around the car when I am parked. I really wish I could keep it but I can't.

Cam Milne and I were having a bit of the same discussion on TC ....we counted about 9-10 "738" SD converts... of which Daves may one of the very few with the original motor!

It is interesting now that more of these cars may be drawn out of hiding since Daves has been listed! These cars need more exposure to draw the value up!... you would think more than 9 or 10 of the 66 would be out there, these were always special cars, even right off the showroom floor!

          I still remember driving the car 30 years ago!laughing.gif  David is correct, it drives as smooth as a new fuel injected car. Fuel mileage was great with the 3.08's and it aways turned heads... It had a attitude, though, when you leaned on the 396, it was a rocket   In those days, I could drive it at 120 mph... 

I wish I could really  (buy) it but I can't. no

Carl I have a plan for you.  How about a dozen of us throwing in a couple thousand each and we buy the car and you take care of it or if that doesn't work 25 guys at a thou.  We keep the car a year or two with the option of one of us being able to buy it when the circumstances are right.  Maybe at some point we even get to drive it!  If all else fails we are only going to loose a couple hundred bucks but we are 1/12 owner of a pretty cool car.

I got a old  car for down payment   If we could move it, I/we would only need 12 grand     Anyone on site into short term financing???

So the guy who offered me $15K actually tells me now that the 3 cars that he has are actually 2 hardtops and 1 convertible and he still has not confirmed if they are big block SDs.

Exactly!  (Kinda reminds me of the scenario of sharing the last desert where one gets to make the cut determining the two portions, while the other gets to decide which piece he wants.  How can the one making the cut complains that the piece he got wasn't big enough.)

I would actually go for a plan like that where 20 or 25 people on the site put up money and own a part of the car, maybe we form a company and all be directors and the everyone pitches in to restore the car and I guess we go from there to see who keeps the car every year, maybe we buy other cars the same way. It would be a easy way to pick up a lot of rare cars. I am serious if you all are and this way I could still be an owner.

I don't think there are any taxes to be paid here.   I think its like our Custom situation, the buyer in Minnesota would pay his taxes there, when he registers the car...   I will check with my friend who takes cars across, and see ....

 fiqured that much-I'd be surprised if they were Beaumonts at all !


Too bad the U.S. dollar went for a wash because at 50% premium on the buck he'd be pretty close to what you want in CDN funds.

All Beaumonts and Acadians held much more interest for me, back in the day, while they were inarguably Pontiacs. Now that there's a raging debate about their marque status, I'm sitting on the sidelines scratching my head. I imagine there are other potential buyers with similar thoughts out there.

The thought of buying a vehicle when people cannot even agree on its lineage makes me apprehensive about future value. It's already difficult explaining these cars to Americans. But, these days, we can't even explain them to each other.

Great cars though. The Pontiac styling cues make them very attractive. Hopefully a common agreement about their status arrives soon.

The next time I attended Autofest, I was thrilled when they said to line up for awards.  I thought "Wow" people did notice this is one of less than 500 1963 Acadian Beaumont SD cars and the trouble I went to finding the missing original trim pieces to return it to an original appearing car with suspension and drivetrain mods.
Once in the awards line, I discovered we were receiving the long distance award.  I was embarrassed, ask me to parade my resto-mod rare Canadian built car with all the people's choice cars because I drove 2-3 hundred miles to attend.
In the last few months I have had my cars up for sale mainly because I can't seem to keep up with two cars and my pension future is still unknown.  Also, my benefits have all vanished so that is all out of pocket expense now.  During this time the convertible has drawn the most attention because it is cheaper and a convertible.  In all the 10-15 people I have had very interested and I believe each one was a potential buyer, not one was interested due to the Canadian Heritage.  In the last 10 years, I have only personally known of one other Canadian built 62 Nova Convertible and this car has a power top when they didn't offer a power top in the U.S. in the 1962 Novas.
Documentation says 1451 built and I know that there were 1250 1962 Acadian Convertibles built.  Not many of them survived.
So, I have not gained anything money wise by owning these two Canadian built cars.  The consensus is that heritage does not add to the value one bit.  I sure haven't seen an added increase in potential buyers.  I haven't had hundred's of Canadian's calling me in response to my Canadian Car ads.  I own these cars because I like to be a little different.  Sometimes it seems like fellow Nova owners don't spend any extra time going over my car because they know they cannot duplicate it.  They know you can't go to eBay and bid on one tomorrow so they don't want to give you the satisfaction of knowing they like your car better than their own.
I'm not a disgruntled owner, I'm not a disgruntled U.S. citizen, I'm just a car guy like all of you and I drink Canadian Beer because I like it, just like I like my Canadian Cars.

I somehow missed this post the first time around.  I agree with Norm 100%.  Anyone who loves and appreciates these cars is qualified to own them as far as I am concerned, regardless of where they live.  In fact, owners outside Canada are perhaps doing these cars a greater service, think how much more difficult it is to get parts and service, they are required to be more determined and dedicated to do things we take for granted, and when they are done they act as great ambassadors, spreading the CP story far wider than we ever could.

You're so right about how difficult it is to get parts outside Canada. When I first got my car 12 years ago I knew it had a Chevy drive train but didn't know the chassis, suspension and brakes were also Impala. I still have the flexible brake pipes I ordered from Ames for a Bonneville. I guess one day I'll get round to putting them on ebay.

I searched the internet high and low for a Parisienne front wing emblem that was broken by the bodyman, gave up and bought the same item with Bonneville cast on it. Of course a week later I found the correct part.... Countless longer or larger parts were sourced in California, or shipped to my good friend who lives there; then brought back at the end of a holiday with him. My suitcase has held various trim parts, a carburetter, fuel pump, NOS lenses - even a complete twin Weber kit for our 72 VW Camper. The largest suitcase item was a period 14" AR 200 wheel that somehow got parted from the other 3 on its way from Sacremento. It went from there to New York, onto a US Navy ship to the UK, got shipped back to New York, into the UK again, but then somehow back to Pennsylvania. I sent it from there to Laguna Beach. It then went in my suitcase courtesy of Virgin Atlantic (I still can't believe the world has allowed such a name for an airline) direct LAX to Heathrow. I claim it as the World's most travelled "off car" wheel. Virgin also bought back FOC my new convertible top - in my surfboard bag - along with the long pieces of window trim from Cal. Pontiac in Santa Ana. On my last trip the board was wrapped in 4 yards of NOS seat/top boot material before going in it's bag. Now that surface mail has gone it's the only cheap way to get parts over here. If I were to order a $10.00 small part from a U.S. vendor, by the time it got here - with all the shipping, import duty, sales tax and other costs - it would total around $60.00. Larger or heavier items are much worse because they also can only now come by air.

Still, if the passion that is old cars was easy - it wouldn't be such fun!
