Went to a car show today in Morrisburg which was held at Upper Canada Village, Great show no doubt at all, over 600 cars, some as far away as Toronto and Barrie Ont. Pulled in, regestered and was told I was in class C which is 61 to 65 late models except T-bird and Mustangs which had there own class, anyway judges came around checked my car and were amazed that they don't see these 61 pontiac passenger cars at most shows and were very impressed. To make a long story short I have not seen a passenger car in all the car shows I have been to get any hardware, not unless u have a conv or hardtop. We all spend a lot of money to fix these cars up like anybody else but get no regonition. For me all car shows should have a class for passenger cars. We have a car show down here in Sept. that has a class for passenger cars so my hat is of to them and I will be there. Anyway, thats my story and I am sticking to it! Have a good rest of the summer guys.
You make a good point, I assume your car is a 4 door sedan type body, the type that every neighbourhood in Canada was covered in. It is unfortuante that people and judges pass them by.
my neighbour has a 1967 Dodge Coronet 440, 318 A block auto, original paint and interior, 28,000 miles, inherited it-needless to say its way too nice (survivor) so not crisp like the restored ones-he's never won anything-sorry I gave him a trophy at a show once.
I drive in with my 83 Trans Am to the P.C. show a couple weeks ago, dry it off-install the for sale sign and leave-it wins 3rd place !
never been able to fiqure it out-must be colors or judges favorite car or ???
Alot of car shows are really subjective... a big show like that because of timing they are set up so the cars are parked according to class and the judges just do a quick 'eyeball' of the cars and pick their winner. That really lends itself to the eyecatching and popular cars...
Proper judging should go through the points for various parts of the car, details, etc.etc. and the judges should review your sheets with you after if you request and even let you know where another car beat you...the body style shouldnt matter whatsoever... (this was my experience with ISCA circuit).
also many shows have 'survivor' or 'unrestored' classes...
They should have a 20000.00 dollar spent and under class and that should clear it up. I could throw money at cars but I refuse. I drive all rare drivers.
I go to car shows to look at the cars....I never expect to win anything(my car is black primer and totally unfinished, the way I like it) I look at the other cars, enjoy the good friends I've made in this hobby, and if I did win something, it would be a bonus...LOL I understand what your saying though, I see it all the time, the 4door is passed up because theres a hardtop or convert in the same class. Enjoy what you have, and to H#LL with whomever wants to judge it... My 2 cents

I let myself be my own judge...... I drive mine cause I like 'em just whatever state they are in! I give myself a trophy every day.... Then I put the key in it, start it and drive away.................. As you should with yours!!!!

i totally agree with sixtywagon and 67poncho. I drive it cause i like it and mines also a more door black primered boat!! I have been the only one with a 59 around here so far and i like that. I did get one guy last night though say that my car was a 60 and that it was not the original engine, but he wouldent listen to me so the heck with him, i know what it is and thats all that matters, and if you want a trophy, like 67poncho said, just put the key in it and drive away.
Hey guys don't get me wrong, car shows are great, you meet nice people, find out information about parts etc. and there are some nice cars out there. I'm not looking for hardware but as you all know there are some really nice passenger cars out there in the shows with lots of money invested. Just a little recognition would be nice for the guys that own these.

I like to go and lift the hood to let em see what's under there. Sure the car is rough but it's an oddball and my pride and joy. I just like to show it off like everyone else and i get both the snide remarks (you can tell as they are looking)and the cudos. A lot of kids like the car. Most people just look and keep going but once in a while you strike up a conversation and that's what i like.
For the Pontiac show that we host in Calgary, we split the GTO's, Firebird's and Fiero's into their own classes, leaving the others in categories set by years. We found the GTO's had been getting all of the trophies. But, given that, the 59 & prior trophy went to a 29 Sedan, the 60-69 trophy went to a 63 Parisienne Convertible, and the 70 & newer trophy went to my 70 2+2 Convertible. So, even though the passenger cars have 3 categories, 2 of the winners were convertibles. Unfortunately few people vote for the sedans or wagons.
We guy i now what you meen At are car show we dont jug any more we get prize for every one now and the prize are drawn .When a car come in to the show we give them a number and allthe prizes have numbers so if your number comes up you dont come and get the prize you pick a number and you get the prize whit that number so if your first or last you get the same chance this way you dont get any body mad at your helpers .So every one is a winner!

Interesting article in the recent Hemmings Classic Car about a guy who is promoting a preservation class for judging. This way the originals don't get overlooked by shiny paint. Also body style is not a concern just unrestored originality Ted
