delco remy distributer

I  have a brand new 1110232 distributer that I bought believing it to be for a 1950 pontiac flathead six, but my book says it should be a 1110209 what would the diference be, someone told me the new one was for an automatic tranny and trying, to find out anything on these old units on the web is tough why would the transmission affect the distributer ???

thanks bill in red deer

Bill,

I believe the 1110232 distributor is for the 1949-54 American Pontiac 6 with automatic.

So the big QUESTION IS Will it work on a standard transmission, what would the difference be

The likely answer is related to vacuum advance. See the following explanation as it applies to the Ford 428 Cobra Jet.........

Although not General Motors related, I think the logic stands up.

No doubt both style distributors will work with either transmission, but the wrong mix may affect performance, economy and driveability.

there are weights, but in both cases they are for the same engine, so they should be similar, there is nothing much in the manual other than saying the weights are there

so can the vaccum unit be easily changed over. right now I dont even know if the engine runs, as I am waiting on the carb coming back from rebuild, if it runs then there is no need to worry about the distributer, its just one of the many parts I have bought as potential's like what might I need
