Ontario Tornadoes

Guys, we had several tornadoes touch down in and around Toronto tonight.  In Woodbridge which is just north west of the city they have declared a state of emergency with 120 houses destroyed.  Huge swaths of the city are without power.  The intersection of Pharmacy and Eglinton is closed, they haven't stated why, either flooding or downed power lines.  Pharmacy and Eglinton is the location of the cruise where Ray, Darryl and I saw the 68 SS427 last night.  Talk about the difference 24 hours makes!

I was actually still in the office when the storms hit.  For those that don't know, my office is on the 72 floor of First Canadian Place which is the tallest office building in Canada.  About 7:00 pm I noticed the sky had gone completely black, actually a very dark purple and there were non-stop lightning strikes.  Then the cleaning lady comes by and tells me tornadoes have just hit.  We go in the lunch room and turn on the TV and are seeing all kinds of amateur video of funnel clouds.  Then the storm slowed down a little and sky turned sort of greenish orange haze.  I decided that was a good time to high tail it home.  Fortunately my neighbourhood has power but I drove through several that don't, mostly older areas with many downed large trees that have cut the power there.  I hope everyone in southern Ontario is OK.  The storm is now moving through eastern Ontario near Belleville and Kingston.

www.cp24.com is probably the best site for updated info.

Ouch. I hope you guys are all ok. I saw the warnings up on the weather channel when I was having lunch at work today.

Hillar, we were at the Hammish Kitchen for dinner and left just before 7:00 pm. As I drove onto the Woodbine bridge it hit, the Cadillac nearly got blown off the bridge, it moved sideways at least two feet, the wind speed coming through the valley was awesome and actually visible with the debris caught up in it. The wind was so fierce that my winshield was dry but my visibility was Zero off the front nose of the car, just a sheet of water. As I got over the bridge the wind effect tunneling down the valley subsided and I was able to steer more normally, I headed down Woodbine as traffiic was backing up on O'connor, the street was pooling like a river and I was spraying water six feet in the air, that's about a mile from home, got on Cosburn and I was the only car except a TTC bus passed me going east. I pulled up close to the side of the house and Mary and Madelyn dashed in, problem was the darn City contractors left a backhoe at the side of my place so I parked in the driveway, and sprinted in to the back terrace door, soaked to the skin right through a cotton Polo button down and heavy cotton undershirt. Got inside and went in the basement until they gave the all clear on CP24. Went upstaris and the sun was shining but the sky was this wierd yellow colour. Second time for me, one rolled by the cottage about 3 years ago, splintering trees like toothpicks.

RE: Ontario Tornadoes

I was tracking the storm on radar last night and a few nasty cells just missed us. We've been way overdue for a serious storm like this. Hopefully this is the last one of the season!

Worst we had down our way was rain and wind. Found out the new sump pump works so that was good. Bad news was the wind knocked over some of my corn.

After being at the BBQ at Chris's on saturday, drove home in rain and decided on sunday to look at the damage in Markdale and Durham. Worst I've seen since the one went through Grand Valley and Barrie years ago.
Our Premier was in Durham on Sunday to see the damage, hope someone gave him a rake and a pair of gloves so he could do something usefull for a change.
