First Test Run


Hey Guys!  Took the Laurentian around the block the other day. No doors, no fenders, no seat......no Cops!!(LOL).  Anyway its coming, Inner fenders are painted! I have the engine temporarily wired in order to move it around to paint it.  Runs strong,  50 psi oil presure no heating issues.  The best feature is the rumpity rump rump from the exhaust due to the 67 327 Corvette style camshaft.  Here are a few shots of it.

The blue is called Intense Blue Effect,   paint code PB3 Dupont.  The firewall, inner fenders, engine etc are single stage acryllic enamel.  The rest of the car will be base coat, clear coat.  It will be two tone blue and white pearl.

or, when the milk crate falls over and you fall back after you punch it and the gas pedal just happens to stick to the floor !!! this happened to me and my younger brother when I was 16 test driving my 56 Ford with a 302 C4..... what a hoot !

Color me jealous!

Still trying to get the censored.gif paint right on the steering column, last thing before taking it on the street (have checked and do brakes work, at least on jack stands), I will try to catch up to you this week!

Love the milk crate tale Elroy!.
Reminds me of when I put the 350/4 Bbl in the '66 Chevy Shorty Panel mid engine Van..
The first ride w/ my buddy was w/ the doghouse off, no seats and sitting on the front wheel wells w/ the fan spinning a few inches away from our knees..
Hooked up to the original 3-Tree and 4:11 it was crazy fast and could pull the front straight axle wheels of the ground!.
Cost, '66 Van $50 and '72 Caprice for the motor $75 for a total of $125 sure bought a ton o' cheap fun back then!.

Man, taking this for a test ride (I am assuming that your 1967 327 Corvette camshaft is the 350HP version) has got to top pretty much everything else!

Especially since you now have validation that your build will be oh so sweet, with that gorgeous color on everything ...

Maybe I will have to fly up there when she is done for a full-on ride ... or better yet - you drive down here in the winter and we can both enjoy ...

Thanks Dave !!  The winter's here sure make me wish a was alot farther south I'll tell you!!  Here are some other shots with the car in the sun and the inner wheel wells on and undercoated.  Also the engine wiring cleaned up a bit, still have to install the cut the length plug wires(blue ones)

Every time I see your gorgeous blue paint I am stunned. Each bit you add (fender wells this time) makes it more beautiful.

What did you do for the windshield wiper system? Looks like the original motor is gone ...

Thanks Dave, the windshield wiper motor is a factory electric one.  I haven't installed it along with alot of other things. Basically just getting things buttoned up so it can start and run in order to move it around for the sanding and painting.  Still have to run my fuel line and install the gas tank.  Put the heater core in it etc, lots to do yet but I want to get it in paint soon.

My wiper motor was the crappy old vacuum one, of course it was non-functional when I bought my car and worse, the switch was missing. I decided to install the Raingear system, thus also doing away with the sometimes-hard-to-adjust cables - and the Raingear system came with a switch that fit smile.gif although sad to say it of course has the new-style graphic of a wiper on it so does not look anywhere near original - oh well can't have everything, eh?

All of my original knobs were shot, I did have to resurrect the headlight knob since I did want to keep the original (actually NOS I bought) switch and the knob-on-rod is not reproduced and near impossible to find in good shape. I painted it black (to match rest of dash) so the black knob with the Raingear system fits in OK.

I confess to succumbing to modern convenience and got the system with intermittent wipers and also push-to-activate washer smile.gif

I think I am going to get a cheapy washer system like this one for about $20 US

some day, not going to pay for the original glass jar system, my car like yours stays close to original but is not a true restoration.
