Thornhill Labour Day Season Wrap Up Cruise

Headed up at 4:30 pm today to the Thornhill Cruise. This has to be one of the best, if not the best cruises in the GTA area. There are plenty of club volunteers to keep things in order, great entertainment, great food and convenient location. When I arrived there was already a full house, must have been 400 cars. The big 50/50 draw went for $1,135 !!!

My plan to just take Pontiac pictures evaporated quickly. You see some of the big boys came out to play tonight.

Al Webster brought his 1937 Cord - Supercharged of course!

A Corvette of a fella we know won the annual trophy. Each Monday a winner is chosen and he was deemed Best of Teh Winners. Owner is Wayne MacDonald, 1965 Corvette 327/300. It was getting late when we heard he'd won so pics are getting dark.

I missed that Alfa and then as it was getting dark someone said did you see it. I hurried to where it was. I apologise for the photos, I wish I had seen it in better light.

The were a few European cars out, A Jensen Interceptor and a few VW's, BMW and Triumphs and MG's.

Let's plan on it! Saturday nights there are the big Queensway cruise and even a decent one out East in Pickering at the CanadianTire on Kingston Road that might be easier for you guys to get to. The Ajax one is a Cruise National site too just like Thornhill.

no need to apologise, it's great to see that Alfa, plus it's bodywork is by Carrozzeria Touring (from Milan I think) and it's a Superleggera (Super light as you may have guessed), it was their trademark, steel tube armature covered with sheets of aluminium...they applied this system to a lot of special cars back in the 40's and 50's...lancia, Aston Martin, etc...
cool Cord and Cadillacs as well...great, thanks

__________________________________________________________
However it was made all I can say is it had the sexiest Italian body, just like Sophia Loren or Gina Lolobridgida on wheels ! I tried to get a good shot of the Superlegga and Touring Milan logos, took about 6 but with the light going this was the best one.

It was incredible really and  don't forget Al Webster's Cord, the V12 Lincoln, Auburn and War time Caddy. There was a Chrysler Town and Country there too. As I said the big boys came out to play last night. That has to be over $750,000 in classics right there. The last Alfa of that quality sold for $275,000 alone I read in an RM auction list.

When I sat down to talk with Mrs. Webster, Al must have been getting a burger!, she said that at that time which was 6:30 ish no one had even stopped to look at the Cord. I started taking pics then a fella with a camera bag came over and asked me what it was, that started the ball rolling.

Both the Cord & 41 Linc are standout car for sure. What does Mr.Webster do for a living? Does he need an adopted son?

I never knew what Mr. Webster did, all anybody ever says is he's a millionnaire. He owns the farm where the auction is taking place. Maybe Hillar knows?

He seems to really love cars, so I thought he would be a restorer or dealership guy. He has great taste in cars as well as deep pockets to allow it.

He always used to have a display area at the front of the blue field at Barrie where he always had a bunch of cars for sale.  I dunno, I always thought he was a dealer.confuse

Anyway like a lot of other vendors, he apparently got sick of dealing with Haney and gave  up his spots about a year or so ago...
