Just Restored - 1968 Pontiac Grande Parisienne

Feast your eyes on this Pontiac that has just been restored on the road and at its first show! the budget was way out of my league! Note the temporary tin can! The Monte Carlo also belongs to the same person. Big Engineering Company!

Cool, a 1965 impala reverse dash.

Are those door panels factory?  they look like they are off a 70's car.

Another one back on the road!!

I suspect the door panels have been replaced. What I do know is that some idiot tried to make a 4dr convertible out of it and Hendrik (The Owner) had to find a roof to fit again!!!

PS. According to the VIN plate this was number 39 to come off the Port Elizabeth assembly line that year.

I'm not positive but I think those door panels are 68 Bonneville. 68 Grande Parisienne might have used them too.

That is very cool. As noted by Dave, I too love that 65 Impala instrument cluster.

GMSA knew how to use all the surplus parts to their advantage!  Like the 64 Chevelle Instrument cluster was used up to 1967 in the Chevelle, Malibu and the Beaumont!  68/69 I must stil check.

door panels look correct, I got a bunch of parts out of a 68 Grande Parisienne a few years ago and it had the molded door panels.

RE the tin can, I always thought those vacuum cans looked like a tomato or apple juice can.  GM probably bought them from the juice companies.

67 used the can as well. I believe only the hideaway headlight cars got them but maybe the A/C cars did too, not sure.

It might just be a guess!  The vacuum can was needed to allow the vacuum to operate in two directions for the pop-up lights?  recall something similar in hydraulics.  Look at shock absorbers that operate on the same basis.

Oh yes, sorry, I should have explained myself. On the Pontiacs that is what it did. I was kind of wondering why the 442 needed it. No hideaway headlamps on it.
