Allante

Earle showed me a 1990 Cadillac Allante for sale at the local used car lot. The car has 100k orig and judging from the condition it looks to have led a pampered life. The diamond white paint is near perfect as is the top. The undercarriage looks like that of a 6 month old car, not a 19 year old! The interior is red leather and the only flaw is a minor split on the drivers seat and the bezel around the seat controls is cracked. Earl has owned a few of these and says the 4.5 litre is a good motor- the Allante version got a steel crank, roller rockers etc. Reading on some of the Caddy sites showed many folks getting over 200000 MILES from these engines. All the fancy books etc come with the car. The price for this Allante that sold for 80 grand new?

$5995 cert and etested!

That's a lot of car for 6 grand. There were something like 3100 built in 1990. I'd say lucky if 10% came to Canada.
For those of you too young to remember the Allante, here's a pic of a similar one:

Opinions?

The bodies were built by Pininfarina in Italy. Chassis was modified Toronado. The chassis were shipped to Italy where the body was fitted and the cars shipped back. It was known as the longest assembly line in the world...

This one's a true beauty Ray. I've got to know these cars fairly well and the truly nice ones will  hold their value if looked after. I gotta watch out or I'll justify this one to myself!!!!

They were all convertibles. The removable hardtop was optional (I believe it was standard at first?)

There is only one thing that could possibly make this car more attractive...... 32 valve, dual overhaed cam 300 HP Northstar.

Yes. Aluminum hardtop was a standard feauture87-early90. Known as Phase1. Mid-90 it became an option to lower the base price in an effort to stimulate sales. There were some changes to the convertible top mechanism, and a few minor things. These cars are known as the Phase2. The 93's have the 32v Northstar, no more Recaro seats, different side glass and top. I have found that the 4.5 is a great working engine in these cars. The North* has more power, but the early ones(93) had the dreaded headgasket problems.

Twenty bids and this red one, in London, didn't sell. Highest bid was only $1,743 Canadian. Didn't meet reserve.

Buyers are sure laying low.

Did the used car lot in Ingersoll sell the white one?

We are still negotiating. It's a very nice car, I still have to move one before it happens. Not many people know what an Allante is. I had many ask" what kind of car is that?" Most guess a Maserati until they see Cadillac on the tail lights.
