Cool RC Plane

My son and I have this yearly tradition of buying some sort of flying toy. In years past we've had a free flight gas powered helicopter (scary having something that flies so high with no control over it whatsoever!) , a "Air Hog" plane (cool but we lost it...) , a couple of indoor RC copters (cool too!) , as well as several charge and free fly planes. Most end up destroyed, lost, drowned etc. This year I saw an RC "Air Rage Razor" plane on sale at The Source for 20 bucks. I think reg price was something like $70. A location near work showed one left so on my lunch hour I stopped by. I couldn't find it on the shelf so I asked an employee. After looking around the store he says "I think I know where it is" and goes into the back of the store. He emerges with the plane in his hand(s). It's in two pieces. Apparently they tried to fly it and it crashed and broke. I was a little ticked and told him this didn't help me and gave him crap for showing it still in stock. Well, to smooth things over he offered it to me for 5 bucks. What the hell I figured for the price of a Happy Meal I could likely fix it. As a bonus it still had batteries in the remote! I repaired it using my hot glue gun and it made for a strong repair. My son and I took it out today and with a little tweaking it flies quite well. It takes 30 minutes to charge and we spent about 45 minutes with it in the park. Our longest flight was one minute. It takes some getting used to and we had some close calls with the trees. You need lot's of open space to fly this one. Here's a short video of the action. Well worth 5 bucks and still worth $20 if you can find one!

Hey Todd, I have a vintage rc plane that need's a little t.l.c. that I may get rid of.( renovating my house and the wife doesn't want me to hang it from the ceiling over the bar) It has a wingspan of about 4 feet. It's an old Bi-plane. Let me know if interested, Mike.

Hi there,

Keep me in mind, after Todd, if he's not interested in your old rc plane.
I would be able to display in my "man-cave".

Regards, Scott (LandShark ....)

That's about how long our planes last. We set a record with this one. After a few good flights today I asked my son if we should quit while we were ahead. He agreed..

Reminds me of when I was a kid and the maiden flight of the RC Cox plane my buddy and I built..
After months of work building it we went to a big field for it's first flight..
Take off was perfect, all controls were working smoothly and after a couple turns and ups/downs a we were beaming!.
All of a sudden it was like someone else took over the controls, it did an about face turn and headed in the opposite direction...right towards the Hydro tower lines in the distance!.
Sure enough we saw a big flash as it hit one of the lines and we watched the pieces fall to the ground..
We searched and picked up what was left but it was too cooked to fix..
Being kids, for some reason we were still happy anyway...maybe even happier?.

Anyone here ever have model rockets as a kid? I remember the first time we had one. We pressed the ignition button, expecting launch to be immediate. We didn't know you had to wait for the element to warm up to ignite the engine. We started walking towards the rocket, still pressing the button and got about 2 feet away when it launched. Scared the sh!t out of us! It worked perfectly- even the parachute deployed.

theres one in the second hand store in Port Colborne on King Street-he told me the whole storey about aquiring it then when I asked for a price he backed down-not sure what their worth-try the airport or clubs or e-bay.

Ken

P.S. it would look great over the bar !

When posting you will see options below the text window. One is "Attach Image(s)" with a little box next to it. Click the box and the window expands. Here's a photo of what you will see:

screenshot.JPG

Once you have your files selected, click the "Upload Files" button. Your files should upload to the website. You will then see your 'attached files" listed just below the text window with "remove insert" options next to each file name. Move your cursor in the text window (the text window is where you type your post) to where you want your photo to be and click "insert" next to the file you want to insert and your photo will appear in that location.
