Acting on a tip 65Camino and I went to see a car described to me as a "rough original" This is what we found.

Nice enough looking wheel and dash.

This car is for sale locally in Toronto listed at $10,000. Owner seemed to like us and when he found out we had tremendous knowledge about these cars he started asking us our advice. I think $7,900 would take it. Hard to say what its worth but personally I have never seen an original 42 year old car like this.

I have location and phone number so PM me if interested.

Ray, did you get a look underneath? It looks like a re-paint, is that right?

For sure it has a repaint, probably garage rash. It was done some time ago I'd say. 65Camino looked underneath, it was good.

LOL, It is always amazing how opinion of condition varies between different people. In my opinion, a good wax and buff and this thing would be taking home some hardware.  I can't imagine touching that engine compartment. Interior is impeccable. Anyway there she sits, been out with a For Sale since spring I heard. Can't imagine we never spotted it before. confuse

If this were Australia we wouldn't care about 4 doors. They all had 4 doors there it seems. Nice car. It would be a great tow car for a 409 Pontiac 2 door post drag car!

I suggested to the owner that he spend the $57 to have George document the car, thinking that it is a good extra to offer with the sale. I'm going  to call him with the details for Vintage.

The owner knows as a four door his market is limited, but guys just to see a car in this condition was awesome, just over 20,000 miles, imagine that in 42 years, 500 miles per year!

The othe rthing is teh information it provides for restorations. I should go back and take photos of everything I can think of.

Probably a good wet sand and compound buff would give the paint a smooth finish. 65 to 68 Pontiac's seem to show every little wave in reflection along the sides, especially the quarter panels. A very hard car to restore to "original tin" status. They were pretty rusty by the mid 70's for the most part and the body jobs a lot of them received made them look worse. How did the rear quarters look in person Ray?

With regard to the dealer nameplate. Isn't your 73 the same as my 65 - which are the older cast metal script style? Suggests a repaint sometime after 73 - does it not?

Good find Ray!

And more proof that they really do exsist and are now starting to find their way out of the woodwork.

IMOP the cowl/firewall seam can be a good measure of the cars overall condition, if you see rust here, it will absolutely be in other places. This picture tells the story of the rest of the car!

That car looks really sharp. Love the originality and how clean the interior is. Can't beat a red interior.

funny how everyone runs after the rusty repairable two door and leaves the cherry four doors behind-what is the difference anyway-aren't they both classics ? kinda similar to the numbers matching senerio

The rear quarters were very good, the right front fender had singns of a repair over the wheel opening though. Not a bondo job though as I tapped it hard and it sounded solid.

I've never seen a 42 year old unrestored car that looks like this, I mean look at the shots of the interior. Cherry is the right word Ken, right down to the colour!

I just can't get enough of looking at those pictures. I think I've viewed this thread about 5 times now! What a pretty car.

So guys, what about value, he told me he'd take $7,900. What's the collective wisdom on that?

I think I did last summer (2008) I invited the owner's to the site too, it was an appraisal so I can only disclose what I told them I was going to post.

it was her father's car, 283 glide-has 40,000 miles but always been in a dry or heated garage-summer and winter-all original paint-to die for inside too-

the four-door thing has always baffled me-its a Classic ! lets see should I but a rusty two door or a cherry four ???

I recall being in Carlisle one year-theres a 69SS396 4-speed chevelle-nice car-had half quarters/newer interior/modified big block $14,900 (big crowd around it)-right next to it was a 69 Malibu 2-door hardtop 350 3-speed manual, bucket seats and console, California Car still wearing its Black plates (supporting documentation) $7500 not a soul looking at it.

check out this undercoat decal on the 63 Pontiac !
