You have to understand, I need to show my Dash guy what the 2+2 dash should look like.

I may have an artist that wants to do the script.

I should have asked for it by email.

I can only dream that my finished product could be this nice !

I get it, that script has to be right!biggrin Honestly, the nicest one I have seen done is from the car DavePL is restoring. He had Just Dashes do his whole dash and script and I'm sure it wasn't cheap! So, here's a little secret that I discovered back in 2010 when I was doing mine...the 2+2 script is an exact replica of the front fender emblem. In fact I created art work for mine by inking the front face of the emblem and stamping it on a piece of paper. I then scanned the image and cleaned it up in editing software and put the border around it. I took it to a vinyl graphic shop and they made a decal for me. So, I applied the decal and sprayed a semi-gloss spray over it. It's been good for 14 years so far! In fact, if you are interested, I had an extra vinyl graphic done and would be willing to donate it to your cause, that is if you want to go that route. If you decide you want it, just PM me with your address and I will send it to you. Leaving town for a couple weeks tomorrow, but would send it when I get back.

thumbnail.jpg

OR, if you send me your email, I could also send you an artwork file that you could use to recreate the graphic.

I've been cleaning up on my parts shelves and in the garage this past week or so. I'd be ready for the postal strike to end so I could advertise a bunch of pieces that I'd like to sell. This getting frustrating.

I know the couriers are available but for small stuff you can't beat the cost of those Canada Post flat rate boxes.

The drywall, mud and sanding are all done.

My drywaller caught Pneumonia and someone had to get it done.

I guarantee the professionals don't create this much dust.

Painting starts Monday,

after work that is.biggrin

Driveway.

Helping a freind sell her 09 Charger SXT AWD. Original owner. Goes in for a safety wed. Couldn't lock the manual tilt/tele column. Sliding in and out, up and down AND flopping side to side. Hmm, not good. No chance it'll ever pass like this.

thumbnail_IMG_8660.jpg

Internet.

Nothing regarding this issue. Zilch. Study and save some on-line images of the column. Ok, I now kind of have a very basic understanding of the mechanism.

Go in for a look. Remove the large lower dash cover and a metal brace behind. A white track thingy (green arrow) falls out to the floor. Look up at the column. Strange, looks like there should be bolts holding that main casting to the dash (red arrow). They're missing! This surely explains the side to side slop. Search around in the extreme lower dash trim and find one long 10mm bolt sitting hidden. The second is missing...

Remove the intermediate dash cover. Unscrew the column trim and tilt handle bellows (3). Remove the gauge trim, unscrew and lift the gauges up. Yep, there's the empty holes in the steel upper frame and the column casting below..

Go to my metric bolts. Sure enough I have the exact 10mm bolt. Finagel the bolts in, tighten them even side to side. Replace the upper trim.

Scootch my big head in under the dash look up, contort and slide that track (green arrow) back into the sliding adjuster. Click it into place on 3 column tabs. Tricky, it only locks in one way. Back out, test lock. IT WORKS. Success. Question is..how could those bolts have come out. Just how?

Feels great to have solved it, and kudos to whoever designed the trim, it's super easy to remove. The design of the T/T is rather neat too, it's just a series of metal clutch like plates, 12 interlocking each side, that can be loosened or tightened in any position. You can see them on the last image.

But I can't image the fun she might have had taking this issue to a Chrysler dealer...

"Sorry Miss, you need a new column, that'll be $2000".

Very strange to see that happen. I never heard of this happening in all my years working at a Chrysler dealer. Maybe she had a repair in the past and the bolts weren't tightened?

Yes, it's weird Todd. Funny you replied, I did think of asking you earlier, as I thought perhaps you were a service adviser at Chrysler on this gen (05-10) of Charger.

She says it never had work done on the column.

So I'm thinking those bolts were just started in from the factory at the dash assmebly station, but not run in. Over the years the column hung on the threads by it's own weight, and as such really might not have been noticed by her. I'm sure she never adjusted the wheel much.

One bolt falls out, column still hanging on the remaining one. That one eventually comes out and the column slips down. You could push it up and it would kind of stay up, but any decent tension pulling down, it slid down. I think she just became used to it, and maybe I was the first to really notice the side to side play? She simply lived with the top of the wheel blocking the gauges lol. Crazy.

Pulled the B Bench seat assembly out. Similar to the windows, opened the motor it up. A little more difficult swinging the brush plate out of the way on these. Rusty on the outside, but like new inside.

I assume the green and yellow wires are the grounds for forward/reverse, and the heavy red is the power feed?

I'll try to do a functional and cosmetic resto on this assembly. The crap on the tracks is sawdust. They have sat for ages beside a table saw.

Picked up a frame from a friend for a different friend. Nice day here, about -1 and calm. Great day to be outside.

Ran to the border this morning and picked up the replacement mufflers for my Strato Chief. I've never tried the Cherry Bomb Turbos before but Rock Auto has such a good price on them I have to try them. Best part is they are identical dimensions to the mufflers I'll be pulling off the car (one has a small rust hole in it, so I know it's just a matter of time).

Plus, who in their right mind wouldn't want to buy from a company who's slogan is "Disturbing the peace since 1968"...

If the roads are good I would not be totally opposed to that. We have friends who live half way to TB, it would be a good excuse to visit them.
