Slight delay in the install...

The Moroso 20408 pan sump would not clear the drag link. Disappointing, as it was almost in.

So lets just throw more cash at it why don't we. Bought a Milodon 30951 7qt pan (shorter sump but deeper), 81151 windage tray and a 18301 pickup. Also a set of 4 Canton studs to hold the tray. bolted it all back up. The pickup was a challenge getting it in the pump body as it's press in. Chilled the pickup and heated the pump body. Not too bad with this method. The stud ends for the windage tray had to be nipped off to clear the pan, after setting the tray it to clear the rod ends. Of course the Milodon dipstick wont work, so I'll have to order one. Before I even started in, I carefully measured (with the wheels at full lock, link in the rearward position) to make sure this pan would work.

It's not easy, but you really learn a lot as you go doing this. Don't believe what you read or hear, take measurements before, and don't take Summit application listings as gospel.

Sure is purdy though..

That's the pits.......sure looks good, should work really good. Measure twice, cut once. I hate it when you're that close to being done and something that shouldn't happen crops up, hard on the blood pressure.

Naw, I stayed really cool on this one Don. Just another typical rodders setback I figure.

The old one is up on Kijiji for a good price. Includes a new pump with the Moroso pickup, and a dipstick. So at least I have a chance at recovering something.

Up at 5, in the shop before the phone rang.

Switched the new rear coils out for the old ones. New ones way too stiff with the spacers. I left the spacers in to see how it would sit.

Test Drive to my Mother's House to recreate a photo of the past. biggrin

Found some Grande trunk stainless steel trim in the loft of the shed and a well worn set of 350 emblems in a junk box.

I have turned over every item in that house in hopes of finding those Grande fended skirts there.

Sometime in the future, I'm just going to have to let the past go wink

I recently did some de-rusting, on my 4x4 Jimmy.
A $20 tool, I found works extremely well / with results, similar to sandblasting:
- a 3/8" de-burring end mill / diameter & tool bottom, chews up rust...very sharp flutes (and didn't go dull)
- than I hit the minor rust pits, with Loctite Extend / converts the corrosion, with deluded phosphoric acid (prior to paint)
The end mill takes the rust down to clean metal, surprisingly quick / its a true labor saver.

Cleaning up after the windstorm last night. Environment Canada says max winds were 66 kph. I was outside and can tell you the wind at my place was substantially above that. This is worst piece to come down. The top of the tree was forked (about 75 feet up). This was one of the forks. The end closest is about 12 inches in diameter. Missed the house by inches. There are divots in the lawn about 8 inches deep where it landed.

I lost about a half dozen other trees. The neighbour's metal roof was coming off at midnight - we managed to get a bunch of tires up there to hold it down. He runs a commercial greenhouse and he lost the roof on one of the greenhouses. Power was out for about 14 hours. Lots of branches everywhere. My eavestroughs are full of pine cones.

Could have been a lot worse.

Looks good. Don't rush on taking off that roof, James may want you to add a nice little suite above there.

They look real good on there, just need those front springs to settle some.

Now you are thinking, got room for a horse or 2? Then I could move in and be barn manager.

Nice Chevy!

Today was the day I decided to replace the ignition wires on the Chief. Got a set for "under the manifold" from Rock Auto for $ Can 36.00, delivered to my door. The suppliers here could not get the correct ones. Two different tries, both for over the manifolds. Plus, wanted about $80.00.

Things went so well I decided to replace the gasket and donut on the starboard [right] side exhaust manifold. This took a bit more knuckle busting. Forgot you must drop the idler arm for clearance. Anyways, got 'er done. Tomorrow we attack the port [left] manifold.

The tractor has nothing to do with it - just thought it was a cool shot I took last week.

Fred
