Those of you who have walked your daughter down the aisle and turned her over to a man you are proud to call son will know what a feeling it is, and what a great day we had.
Exactly, know the feeling.
Congratulations to the newly weds and to the proud parents.
It never ends! Finished up the bodywork on my truck and pulled my wifes in to chase an oil leak. Noticed some bubbles in the rocker panel paint.....need I say more.
Mine finally fixed after a year!
Wifes truck....more work! Nice thing is the box sides are plastic......no rust.
I dyed the interior of a VW bug about 23 years ago from beige to black and it is still as good as when I did it. I bought the dye from a vendor at the Sussex Flea Market in Sussex, NB. It was in spray cans and I have forgotten the name of it. I know the last three letters in the name were ----sol. Anybody familiar with it? I know it is a good product and wonder if it is still around. I have also used the Canadian Tire dye and it worked good for me.
Not garage or driveway, but in prep for....Crossed the border to my PO box yesterday, and picked up the set of Viking Hybrid coilovers I'd ordered. A225-TK550's.
Should solve all the ride height and ride quality issues I've faced over the years. It's been very difficult to find springs these days that are 100% suitable.
Even the custom spring houses like Detroit Eaton have trouble getting it right for the B Body. They are always too stiff.
These will be nice in that I can set the ride height, and the shock itself has multiple damping and rebound setpoints, easily accessed by clicking the two knobs.
They are a really nice looking and finished part. They include a Torrington bearing between the spring and collar and have a bearing in the lower mount.
I chose the 550 rate spring which is a small block spring, as I feel my BB is within 60 lbs of an iron SB. The 650 BB spring would likely be too stiff.
Can now easily change the spring if needed without breaking open the front end if needed.
Look forward to the install. Should be the last time I have to break the front end apart!
Gona wait Mark to see what you think of them when installed before I leap in. Not happy the 66 Impala is still sitting to high in the front after a year
I think the hybrid is a clever solution Kevin, but you need to be careful using them on stock lower arms.
All of the cars front end weight ends up bearing on the lower shock mount. A old tired arm could break through unless reinforced. An aftermarket lower works best here, but a good stock arm would be pretty easy to shore up.
But I concur, it's very difficult to get thing right with this front end design...it's not the best from GM.

Nice purchase!!! Was thinking the QA1 for mine. The downstroke is what I need to fix and I notice your shocks are double adjustable (down and up). My car is soft on the down and bottoms out the exhaust, but even without the exhaust bottoming she moves too far down. Just wondering if you think I need to go coil over or just double adjustable on the shocks? Budget is a factor...Qa1 single adj are 350 ea!
This may be interesting for guys with lifts or are considering getting one. It is possible to change your Trusses for added height. I just did mine and it was no big deal. I gained 29" in height and can walk under my lift now with a car on it. I saw a lot of forums that said it could not be done, which is one reason I decided to do it. Get the air nailer out as it takes about 1000 nails. working off the 4 post lift to do the truss install was a dream.
We had an interesting situation with the ceiling when we had our home built 2 years ago. Our cottage style roof on the house dictated the truss style over the garage and wouldn't allow more than a 10' ceiling. I knew I needed more so my idea was a pocket in the ceiling in the area of the bay where the car roof would be the interference. We went to 2 building centres to get a quote on materials. It started off bad at the first place 25 miles from our small town. We walked in, sat down and the first thing the salesman said (knowing we lived 25 miles away) was "Are you serious about buying here or are you wasting my time?" We WERE serious but that was strike one. Strike two came when we went over the blueprint and I showed him what we needed, which was at least another 6" in ceiling height in the area above the hoist. He proceeded to tell me there was no way to do it. We left there with me very discouraged.
We went to the second building centre, in our home town just three blocks from our building site. We showed him the blueprint and told him what we needed. He took his pencil and piece of paper, sketched on it for about 30 seconds, spun it around for me to look at and said "that's the trusses we will need to order for that area." Problem solved, it worked out perfect and I'm over 6' tall. Hoist up, I can walk under the car.

Yes after a NO, I had to challenge the Engineer in person with a comment like "Hmmm you would think as an engineer you would be able to over engineer a truss design" The guy at Star Building Center made the trusses for me and they fit perfectly. I measured them and he made them exact. I had to tap them in place lightly with a rubber mallet, It's not that often you get work like that. I was pleased with the whole project. When you get to a certain age the word NO should go away. Yes everything can be done and yes it's easy to do.
Where is the pex pipe for the infloor heat? At this stage it is not a large cost. About 45 to 50 cents per foot and you need a foot of tube per square foot. 1/2" pix in approximately 250ft loops give or take 10%.
Getting my 88 Jeep YJ ready for it's yearly inspection. I'm replacing the faded and weak rear tail lights with LED units. Got one installed tonight. WOW! What a difference!
