It's actually T 11 01 IHR. Weird how they use the same stamp for the "one" and the "I" but that's how I've always seen it done.

....yes I've read where the 1 and the I have interchanged and even some sources say the 1 was not used in this app.

What is the IHR.......IH is a 66 427 390  4 BBL and MT (my 66 Impala is an IH ) but can't find IHR in any books or in

Colvin's Chevy by the Numbers.......even the Lime Book does not list an  IHR

Yup. How Iucky was that to find the right casting number and the right stamping number to make my ''fake'' numbers matching 427 4 speed Strato Chief? And it was almost in my back yard, less than 5 miles away.

The R is for Rochester carb (vs Holley). A Holley would be IHH stamping.

I had to trade my 68 Parisienne 427 for it but I'm fine with that. He was going to use it in a hot rod so he didn't care about the numbers and for me it's perfect.

Ouch, I just went online and shopped 942 blocks, even the 2 bolt blocks are nuts.

I know I had a lot of guys wanting to buy my 1968 427 block that I had to trade for this one too.

The 66 block is worth twice as much as the 68. You did real good. Has block been crack checked? That rear head bolt tend to crack into the water jacket.

It's actually all fresh, boring, pistons, crank ground etc. He had it done 30 years ago and it has been stored, all wrapped up. And for a change, someone stored a fresh engine pretty well, it's all oily, not a hint of rust anywhere. I still plan to take it all apart to check all the work because it's all unknown, I don't know who did the work, where it was done, none of the details.

What are the odds of finding such an engine so close to home? Can I borrow your horseshoe?

Good for you. Looks like you will need to find the correct rear grooved cam for it now. Or did you get one with the deal?

No I didn't and I've been shopping. I wish I could still buy the original GM cam new. I had one in my 4 speed 427 car way back when. Perfect cam with just a tiny hint of it at idle. Nice and driveable. I don't want to over cam this engine. I'm not building it to beat on it.

I see at least one manufacturer will cut the groove in the cam if I order from them.

Carl - I put this in my 66 427 some 21 years ago and after 25,000 miles it still runs strong

Stood in the garage tonight with a CP member from another province along with his 2 brothers. After they spend the night in Morris I'm gonna kick them out so they can continue their adventure! So, although no work got done, it was an evening well spent.
