I drilled my crank without a drill press,,started with a small drill bit thank goodness as I didn't get it straight...Had to work carefully from there to get it straight worked out great but was worried ..if I had to do it again I would most deffinately buy a press
Made some more wall art. Thinking 47 Olds tail lights(but not sure) with LED lighting. Just luv the look of the glass in the top of the housing. Also built my son some speaker brackets..just a nice day in the shop...playing with my own stuff! Can you guess the colour?
Not today exactly but over the course of a few days in the garage. Spare time and energy to work seem to have been a struggle this winter. A stupid cold has knocked me down for about 3 weeks.
Assembled the heads for my engine project. Little bit of valve spring shimming needed to get correct installed height.
I used the tailgate because I haven't been feeling well for a few weeks, and energy was low. This way I could sit on an upside down plastic pail and it was the perfect work height. My workbenches are much higher.

Did a little polish up of the 327 Journals. Used the cloth, metal polish and shoelace method. The journals are in excellent shape on this engine with little to no wear.
Cut a strip of cloth as wide and slightly longer then the diameter of the Journal. Add tape to one end. Apply polish to the journal. Wrap the cloth lightly around and connect together with the tape. Wrap the shoelace around twice and start working back and fourth.
Takes a little coordination, but once you get the hang of it you can really spin the cloth. Open the cloth to re-apply polish once per journal. The result is nice shiny journals that probably make zero difference to performance, but makes you very happy. I think a square leather shoelace would probably work better. But I only had a round one.
The Shoelace, and cloth strip,
End result after cleaning mostly everything. Still have to wash it and scrub out the oil passages. Isn't it pretty!

WoW..nice work Mark and great info! Hope to get to mine soon..maybe post in a thread(would be easier to fallow)enjoying your progress. Need to do all the same on mine but have a bit of help from a buddy. Machine shop in the woods. Hes tuning up our Bonneville truck head.
Re placing control arm bushings in 64 Impala. Now wishing it was a small block!!!! Had to cut the bolts off [ hardened] for upper left side, remove A/arm, remove inner fender then use "HUGE" C/clamp to press out the bolt remains!!! Alternative was to remove strg. col. then remove exhaust manifold to get clearance. to slide A/arm off the bolts. Didn't want to go that route with possible broken bolts happening in removing manifolds. Right side is going to be "IFFY" on clearance TOO? One side at a time, once upper done will do lowers, then move to other side. Upper left was "beat" & hoping noisy ones are the lowers??? She's "not" so fine ,my 409"

Bead blasted the timing cover. Painted it with VHT Chevrolet Orange.
Not sure if I like it, the image really doesn't show, but it's kind of pale looking. Maybe this is closer to the mid 60's factory colour? I'm used to seeing a brighter Orange. Any thoughts?

I noticed my last trip to CT that they had a redder orange than the orange I had bought before..yes didn't notice till I got it home..oh well redder it is..ordered my 2+2 front emblems today and still trying to figure out how to file and send pics darn computers lol
Bead blasted the 327 intake after 2 days of letting it baste in oven cleaner. I'm really glad I kept that Princess blasting cabinet, although I now need a new water trap. I'm blowing water back on it now, and you can see that in the brown cast.
Still need to give it a good cleaning at the coin wash (too cold to outdoor wash at home). Then get to painting it up.
The water pump goes to John Stuart Power Brake for a reman tomorrow.

Did you remove the bottom splash shield and clean under there? What year is the intake?

Partial snow day for me today. Went into work this morning as I had some work in our production area that needed to be done. Glad I came home when I did. 90k winds, poor visibility and parts of the road home were drifted in. My HHR "honey wagon" did well. I was almost stopped dead in my tracks by a heavy drift (didn't see it thanks to poor visibility). It's all supposed to turn into rain this afternoon.
