Last week I sent the bumpers for my 68 Impala convt out for re-chroming.

The brake rebuild will be finished next week. All required metalwork is completed and the body and chassis will be reunited in about three to four weeks from now after the underside has been painted and detailed; then comes exterior and interior paint,  convt top, upholstery and reassembly.

I'm trying to decide if I will plant the engine and trans back in the chassis before the body and front clip are installed. That wasn't my original plan but if I can get the trans ready in time I think that's what I will do.

Playing in and out of the shop. Property is getting there and so is the c-10. Have enough room to swing the machine! That was a BIG stump to dig out!!  Looking forward to camping this summer!!

Well, into the driveway at least! Got 4 brand New 15 x 8 Wheel Vintiques Series 62's from Randy (ABC123)

Thanks Randy, great meetup today! I think they'll look awesome on the 65, painted body colour blue with the dishes.

I'm looking at The Cooper Cobra in a 235/60 15 or 70 15. Maybe 245? Chosen on good price and a great rating from Tire Rack. Not many other choices in 15's anymore.

Any other ideas on rubber? Sizes? Styles?

Just my two cents mark, I would leave wheels a silver grey wider tires on the back and narrow up front

Went through this very battle Mark. 245 rears are too big (looks odd) to go with 205 or 195 on the front.  Try Tiger Paw,can still get a 235 for all the way around or 235 rear and 205 front.

I actually was thinking to do all the same size all round, in case one or two get thin.

Thinking if I was to do narrower on front, I would also probably go with a 6-7" wheel in that position. A narrow tire might not work on the 8" wheel.

Well, it wasn't really in my garage, but I travelled to Lethbridge to lay out the stripes on a W-30 and a W-31 for a customer. I have the factory blueprints for these, and have done quite a few of them.

Cobras are an awesome tire for the money, sold them for years and still run them on the summer stuff. On my 65s I run a 235/60 15 front and a 255/60 15 rear, gives just enough rubber rake, fills the wheel opening nicely.

Thanks, I bought that creeper at Costco a few years ago, and it makes it a lot easier on my back, knees, and other aging body parts. It's no longer available from Costco though.

Making progress! Getting in the shop every 2nd Sunday. In the past month, the quarters were patched on the donner before cutting the lower half off. I glass blasted and primed them and they are now ready for installation. Just waiting on the call to take the frame, wheel wells, rims and various parts to the blasting shop. Started the assembly of the body. The front vent panels are now installed and we slid the floor pan in place. Looks like the front will have to be modified. I will take pics as this is done so you can see what I mean. The Chevy pan is not quite a perfect match but will fit nicely when finished.

Man, what a day, 17 degrees here! Took advantage, undid, impact gunned and zip cut the front suspension and steering out of the 65. Not keeping any of it. Felt really nice to work outside again.

Question;

On the thru-frame 65 idler arm, how do you keep the shaft from spinning when trying to undo the top nut?

Mark, i like your safety attitude. Four stands instead of two stands. Play it safe and live longer to play some more. smile

I'll never go under without at least two stands in reserve George. If it's a lot of shaking the car, I'll bring a floor jack in as well, or lay some tires on rims underneath.

It would be a horrible way to go.

Total agreement it would be a real nasty way to go. Back in the mid 1980's i lost a cousin because he did not think things through. He used a simple trunk jack and the car moved over and fell on him. A sad stupid way to die. Like you i always go the added added mile on any vehicle and that includes having the trolley jack under there as well. Stay safe.
