RE: what did you do in your garage / shop and or driveway today ?

So Im apprenticing with my buddy as a metal man. He is so talented in all things so Ive spent a couple days now making the scoop for his hot rod. First carefully crafted a wooden buck and have now started hammering to shape. Interesting with the planishing hammer and the metal shrinker. Ways to go yet.

Yup. Factory air that still works (at least up until we started the restoration!)

the car is sitting way too high right now so Im dropping it down 3 inches in the front and 4 inches in the rear. Too much rake on it now. The wheels on it now are just rollers. I Have a set of Weld Drag Lites, and a set of Ridler 650s that Im trying to decide what will look best. The Drag Lites are wides and skinnies and Im leaning more that way. The Ridlers are 7s front 8s rear. Once I get everything put Back on it and the weight on it thatll help decide. Im also torn as to what project to do next. I was going to do the 67 SS 396 Chevelle, but I might do the 67 SD Beaumont. Frig it. Ill do both. Guess its water, day old bread, and MrNoodle for a couple more years.

Yeah you know how it is now not being able to go to the barber.   Yeah that's my buddy Deano, the guy that can do pretty much anything and his shop has every tool imaginable for that to happen.  One of my hockey buddies too.  Only place where I can out perform him.

 It's worth it!

Does that mean you disabled the A/C now in the Nova?

Nope. Just disconnected for the restoration. Hooking it back up soon. Going to be the wifes car. I have a Richmond 5 speed that was going to go in it, but she cant drive a stick so I picked up a Monster transmissions 700 R4 and put it in it so she could drive it. And if there wasnt AC in it, thered be a mutiny on my hands!!!!

Painted my spare frame with POR-15, and then while it was still tacky I sprayed a coat of Duplicolur black over top to stop the UV rays from hitting the POR-15 (it goes hazy in sunlight if you don't do so). I left the frame as a roller for now, so I can move it around.

Next, I'll be jacking up the parts car and putting it up on the blocks that are currently under the painted roller frame to get it another 7 1/2 inches off the ground.

When you click reply here it just goes to the end of the thread. It can't piggyback like you are thinking. Don't worry, it happens lots around here. Often you will post thinking you will have the next post to what you are replying to but in the meantime someone else has sandwiched in between!

Actually, yesterday not today, but did a lower control arm and outer tie rod end on one side of the G8 and an inner tie rod on the other side. 200,000km's on it already............sigh.............

Very simple job though, I had been dreading the job thinking that because of its somewhat unique suspension vs. most rear drive cars it would be complicated. It was easier than doing the same job on an older rear drive car. On some cars with a steering rack the inner tie rod isn't a simple job but on this car it really is simple. I started off doing it first because I wanted to get the nasty job over with first and I think it turned out to be the easiest of the 3 items!

Built a gazebo for my wife this weekend. Still need to put the roof covering on, but at least it is up. Using rough sawn 8x8 hemlock really gets the muscles burning. Each one (8x8x10) weighed approximately 250 +/- lbs each. Weighed one when we first started. They were fresh off the saw when I picked them up. And they are not dressed, so they are a true 8 inches x 8 inches. Closed in the roof with true 2x6 planks with a routered bevel edge to give it a nice detail on the ceiling. just have to wait for the steel for the roof, then finish the million little details on it... sigh.

Very nice. Feel free to come to PEI and build one for me! One nice thing I notice here in PEI there are a number of small sawmills where you can take a log in and have lumber cut to whatever size you wish and the prices are super reasonable. I never noticed any in Ontario.

Looks nice.  Did you know POR-15 also produce a product called Chassis Black, SKU 46004, it is a top coat designed give their Rust Preventive product production from UV and maintain a uniform colour intended to look like the factory black?  I used it on my frame and it looks awesome, unless you want a semi-gloss look.  I plan on using it on everything in my engine bay.

I was trying to figure out an easy way to press the bushings in the front control arms, given their irregular shape. I went to Princess Auto and bought some black iron fittings: 2 couplers and 2 short, threaded nipples with 1-1/2" inside measurements. They fit over the bushing rubbers perfectly and allowed me to safely press the bushings in without sliding all over the place. No doubt this was a lot cheaper than the GM tools shown in the shop manual.

We have been busy with work and worthing on the house renovations but this week I finally had some time to do some work on our truck... Lots of little projects that I was finally able to do... New condenser, schrader valves, low pressure switch, new nos factory thermostats, and finally stripped the bad clear and re finished the hood.  Still looking good at 230,000 miles

Looks like your roller chassis has the 14 inch station wagon rims (or are they later 15 by 7s from the 80s?). The 14 by 6 wheel was standard on Chev and Pontiac B wagons from at least 63 to 69. And also standard on all Canadian full size Pontiacs in 68 and 69. I always liked these wheels and accumulated as many as I could find back in the 70s and 80s. Of course nowadays it's hard to get a large 14 inch tire for them.

Well today its what I did on the garage, my moms garage roof. Pretty good day. By 10 I had shingles and delivery arranged. By 2 I had stripped 8 square of shingles, by 3 had 3 rows of rhino roofing on at the peak and by 4 the roof was loaded and the hiab had left all in low 30 degree weather. Gotta love these small towns, what great service. I would have had to book this a week ahead at home. Roof also comes with a lifetime warranty for the original owner.

You are lucky Jerel that the pitch is walkable. I would like to save the money and do mine myself but not with the angle. Roofer is starting tomorrow. I know Im going to need a lay down once I get his billcry

A large portion of my family has switched to steel roofs.

My younger brother say "we are all getting to old for the roofing parties we used to have"

I have that same 12/12 pitch.

Not sure if I will be up there again.

Yeah we built a few of those 12-12s over the years. Test the back of the legs and guys didnt complain about wearing their harness. The best were years ago when many of the roofs were cedar shake. The steeper pitch was the nicest to work on as you didnt have to bend over hardly as you were fastening the strapping. Just like standing on a ladder while you work. You have a beautiful house there Kevin.
