RE: Canadian Dealer codes (post your Dealer emblems)

.........anyone ever see the Gorries Downtown (emblem or plaque) as seen in this photo from 1962.

Later on they were a plastic or metal plaque .........remember seeing them on later 67 Chev/Olds

Looking for one or several to re-pop or restore.........

I heard this dealer never made chrome emblems. Only decals like this one posted. Is there a way to get these remade. My car was originally sold there. Would be cool to have the decal.

Not to dis anyone's interest in dealer stickers or badges, any vehicle I bought new which had a sticker attached, I asked the dealer to remove it or pay me $25.00 per month for advertising benefits. They invariably complied. If a badge was already attached, I would simply request a similar unit sans badge or buy elsewhere. I would do the same to a house I bought if the builder's logo was affixed to it.  I simply looked at it as free advertising that did not enhance the appearance of the vehicle. Just my personal preference at the time.

I do understand the reason for collecting or installing on restored autos such as ours is from a historical point of view. Not finding fault - just illustrating how I have some fun with car dealers.

What you describe is not unlike a garage in these parts who after servicing your vehicle sees fit to put their license surround with their name on your vehicle.

Anyone have a Winnipeg Motor Products emblem they are willing to sell. That's where my '66 Grande Parisienne was purchased from.

Yes, I think I have one but I couldn't find a place on that car that it fit Tom. I'll look for it this week, I have NO idea where it is!

Yup, seen that too. Have had them re-install a dealer sticker after service or warranty work which would bring us back to the $25.00 thing once more. biggrin

Hi Carl, even if I can't get it to fit, it would be a great piece of memorabilia for the car. Absolutely no hurry, if you find it let know.

Cheers!

Well, 1/2 hour (and most of a bag of BBQ chips) later, I'm no farther ahead.

I won't give up Tom, I know it's here, I saw it since we moved.

I had the same approach with dealers over the years, My first new car was a 93 Bonneville and I had the dealer remove the decal, thankfully screw fastened dealer emblems were a thing of the past by then, I'd never accept delivery of a car with some crappy emblem screwed into my virgin sheetmetal.

Many of my cars come from California and its funny how o one in California would ever tolerate a dealer emblem or decal on their car. The only place dealers identified themselves was on the licence frame. I've never seen any sign of their use back then in Canada. I imagine there were rules in Canada prohibiting covering any portion of the plate? Many dealers in Montreal now use plate frames but this is a recent trend.

I've always used plate frames on my modern cars to hide as much of the offensive Quebec nonsense on my plates as possible.

Toronto, Ontario dealer WEST YORK is where my 1974 Chevrolet Caprice Estate wagon was originally sold to my dad. This is my only photo showing the dealer emblem. Interesting note is that my dad told the salesman that he did not want any dealer decals or tags on the car when delivered. They put this cast dealer emblem on the car anyway and my dad was burning mad that they drilled holes in the car. I am glad they did because i like this dealer emblem on the back of the wagon. I think it is a classy emblem and one of the better ones i have seen. Cheers. GeorgeWagon shots 016.JPG

Telling a salesman anything is a waste of breathe, I always write it on the deal contract No dealer emblem to be affixed to vehicle, please supply in glove box. I've only had to wait once  for them to take the car back into the shop to remove it then it appeared with a license frame with the dealer name on it no that lasted about 15 minutes.

Ironically I too like to see them on the old cars and my 73 has one drilled holes and all, which I like.

Hi Guys, I have a 1971 Monte Carlo SS that was built in Oshawa Ontario and have all the gm docs including the original Bill of Sale. It was from Community Chev Olds Ltd in Winnipeg and noticed on your Dealer List Carl that you dont have the Dealer Code, it shows the Zone prefix but the last 4 numbers are missing. On my Bill of sale and the Protecto Plate warranty booklet they both show Community Chev Olds Ltd was 4271 if that helps to add to the list. I also have a 72 Monte from Wolfe Chevrolet in Vancouver but you have that Dealer Code already.

Darren.
