Window mechanism diagram...

Would anyone happen to have a shop manual diagram that shows the manual (as opposed to electric) window crank mechanism setup inside the pasenger (or driver's...) door of a '64 Pontiac? Many thanks for any help!!

I likely have the page from the parts book but they are not very good if you are looking for repair info.

Do you have a specific question about it?

Carl, it appears as if the window channel that the window sits in has separated from the window itself. I can pull the window up inside the door panel with nothing attached to it. Since I haven't pulled the door panel yet I'm not sure what I'm looking at to fix it but our mechanic, who gave it a quick look when it was in the shop, says we need a new channel. I have the old part and was wondering if there is a way to re-attach the window to the old channel (mechanic said we may be able to epoxy it). Have you ever dealt with this type of problem? (Thanks for the help...!)

Yes, if it's the style I think it is. Originally it was likely held in with a rubber seal that swells up and holds it in. I think guys use epoxy now though. I have not done one with epoxy, so sorry, I can not give you correct advice on the procedure.

Neil, sounds like the lower frame on glass has broken away from frame. I ran into this on my 64 Catalina, you will have to strip the door panel, remove vent winow frame & then undo glass from regulator, & if frame is not too bad you can tack weld it back together, or look for a better door glass frame.  Hope this helps, been there done that, no TEE SHIRT

Pete, the window has already completely detached from the metal channel (I got the channel back from my mechanic..). But the channel looks fine (it's a pretty thick piece..) and it seems as if it just needs to be re-attached (by epoxy or something??) to the window. If that's the case do I still have to remove the vent window frame, or will I have to do that anyway in order to get the whole unit back in..?

Thanks very much for the input...

Neil

If the glass is just out of the channel you can buy the rubber seal. Or you can urethane it back in. Sometimes the problem is that the attachments from the channel to the to the bottom window frame break off.  Sometimes they rust off, sometimes the rivets break. You can buy the channels from any of the 61-64 Chevy suppliers - CARS, Antique Chevrolet, Ecklers, etc.

Neil, if the glass is out of door, you will have to take the vent frame out, I don't think you can get it back in the chanels, frt.& back, without doing this, unless somebodty knows away that I don't know of???   Pete

I have replaced the door glass in a 63 Impala without removing the vent; just can't remember exactly how I did it.
