I am about to place an order. I can use some of their Grand Prix parts. Their catalogue is amazing. $27.00 for their best package tray for a 67 GP.......I'd hate to complain about low prices. Anyone here order before? http://www.amesperf.com/. I bought a 228" car cover from Canadian Tire........of course its too short for my 226.8" car.
I have always been happy with Ames other than back orders, same as every other place. Ask if it's in stock when you order.
I would agree. Like Carl says, ask if they have it in stock, otherwise it could be many weeks before you get it. When shipping stuff from the states, it's always better to get everything shipped in one shipment so backorders don't come with the paperwork for your full order again and give the guys at customs a reason to pull the shipment and try and charge duty on the whole thing again. And of course the CARDINAL RULE:
NEVER, EVER HAVE IT SHIPPED UPS, US POSTAL SERVICE ONLY!!!
Was I clear enough on that point?

I've used them on many occasions, never had a problem, had my orders shipped to friends in states & picked them up myself. Order desk people are "good" as once I ordered a g/shift quadrant for a 65 [mines a 64] intending to modify it to fit new trans, guy said right away "it won't fit your car" when I gave him the part # Right on "the ball" & yes I did make it fit, for turbo 350 shift pattern

All positive. One time they substituted an A/C glove box for a non A/C one which wouldn't do the trick for me. When I challenged them they sent the correct one and said to hang onto the wrong one as it wasn't worth having it returned across the border.
427Carl - well said and very emphatically. Absolutely true.
I am so disgusted with UPS that I refuse to even use them here in Canada. If I am having something sent to me and I am not even paying the dime I refuse ! My most recent experience was recieving a Hurst shifter for my Catalina. The knob was twisted on so tight by some ape it was cracked. I recieved a free replacement from Summit. No questions asked. $25.00 bill from UPS on a free part ! I have a shipping address in Michigan but didn't want to drive the hour for a stupid knob. EVERY ONE I know seems to feel this way about them, do you think their business is suffering ? do they care ?> There my rant is over.
UPS doesn't give a sh!t. This has been an issue for forever. I first complained to them about their rates over a decade ago (maybe two), nothing has changed. I think the fees they charge for brokerage are built into their business model for profitability and therefor they will never change. For larger sized items from the US, they still effectively have a monopoly, although I have had a set of wheels shipped to me by FedEx. Otherwise you have to use a trucking or freight forwarding company which is a lot less convenient for most people.
My rule, if it can't be sent USPS, I just get it shipped to a friend's place in the US. I refuse to give ANY business to UPS as well, and that includes shipping or receiving stuff domestically within Canada as well.

I refuse to buy from anyone who won't mail to me from the US.
I had to pay a bit more for the water pump for the cottage pressure system but it was only about $20 more on $125 pump and I knew that once UPS had me bent over I'd be much happier just paying the extra $20 up front.

Better get a ship cost on that package tray; and that will only be to your closest border point.. A package tray is shipped 'DOUBLE OVER SIZE' and too large to go US Postal. I sell that same package tray for $32.50 Canadian.
This for the people in the Manitoba area. There's a place at Dunseith, ND, that you can send stuff to and go pick up, then bring back across the border, here's the website, http://www.theborderservices.com/301.html. They're pretty popular in this area.
Dale @ NOS - I'd much rather buy in Canada, I'll get my wish list ready. If you have the package tray, I have the money. I'll order through your site. Thanks
thanks; don't stock the GP tray but glad to order for you. Give me a couple of weeks prior. To ship a package it is best to wait till you might need other items that can go in the same box at no additional ship cost. Have a nice weekend
Thank You. I can order soon, and am not worried about waiting time. I understand that the package is oversized for shipping, it doesnt bother me. The car will be garaged for the winter this weekend. Have a good weekend as well.
I bought a disc brake conversion kit and a few other things from them earlier this year and had no serious issues with them. The only thing they could have done better was providing status for back-ordered items. I had to repeatedly call them and ask what was going on and every time I had a different story told to me. At long last they said the parts were going to ship that day, and the parts actually arrived the next day (from California to Toronto overnight?). So their shipping status info was lacking but their helpfulness with selecting the right parts and ease of ordering were top notch.
And don't ship UPS to Canada, but I think someone might have mentioned that already
At the Railway (CPRAIL) we shipped with UPS back and forth but just be for I retired we changed to FedEx for all parcell shippments in Canada and to the States. Cheaper and better service we found.
Hillar: Taking a perfect '71 Tempest dash pad and a fake 7040273..... for entertainment purposes only of course ! Be there around 10am might see you this time . JW
As a side note to the Ames thing, didn't I read a few years ago that Steve Ames had actually sold that company? It seems like it's still a good place to deal which isn't always the case with someone new.
