Another one of our Junior d men is going to stay in the NHL

Last year it was Luke Schenn and this year it's Tyler Myers making the jump with Buffalo.  Was hoping he'd be back for another year as he had really developed last year but I guess we should be happy for him.  There's times when I wonder how good it really is for them to jump up early like that.  It looks like Luke is struggling a bit this year from what I've seen and Myers is only around 220 lbs. or so on a 6'7" frame so I think it'll be a challenge for a longer NHL schedule.  Lucky he's a pretty good skater though.  It's been neat now for d men with Josh Gorges, Shea Webber, Schenn, and now Myers making it in just the last few years.  Have to give the Rockets scouts some credit.  What do you think of these young guys going up so early?

I am not a supporter of it. Defense is the toughest position to play, whether it is Bantam or Pro. Most boys don't want to play it too so when you get a good one I see the urge to promote fast.

Luke Schenn, with all due respect to the boy, is nothing but a pylon this year. They bulked him up and now he can't skate or handle the puck. I think the maturity level is something too that needs to develop. First year rookie and you get a lot of help on and off the ice, second year and you fold into the masses, especially when struggling. I look at these young guys and think that there is a ton of pressure and high expectations and its easy to see why some can cut it.

I totally agree.  A year or 2 more in junior will never hurt especially with maturing.  Hopefully they will have lots of good years in the pros and one less year shouldn't make a difference in the big picture.  It also gives the junior hockey fans even a better calibre of hockey to watch.  Pretty good time for sports fans now as I think just about every pro sport is being played.  I've been watching a little more TV than usual the last couple weeks.

I have at least two games a week to coach with the Minor Bantams and I also go on the bench for Midget/Juvenile House. It seems when I am home there is always Hockey to watch. I really like kicking back Saturday nights for the late games from the West and we also have the RDS for the Montreal and Ottawa games en francais. Edmonton and Detroit is on right now, good tilt!
