Spending your money on quality tools is always a good investment. You can't go wrong there.

If you want your eyes opened up, ask a heavy truck mechanic what he has tied up in tools and tool boxes.  I didn't believe it at first, so check for yourself.

I have my boxes, but I still like to have a few. I also don't mind the odd trip to the "RIPPERS"!.

Good for you. Keep it up. It's guys like you who make a difference in this world.

Our son is the same age as you. We are teaching him that if he wants to be noticed in this world, he can be noticed by being "different" which is what you are doing.

I am assuming you have parents who care enough about you to teach you to be like this....

Oh, and Princess Auto tools may not be Snap On but I understand all about budgets.

Having a hobby like ours is great ! Keeps us busy in a good way and out of trouble, Princess Auto has cheap tools but at least they will exchange broken tools without any questions... The other day I bought a set of Torx sockets on sale for 5$, remove one seat belt, broked it on the second one, went back to PA the next day and got my money back.

What good is a tool that breaks when you use it?

JonathanD good for you at 15 Princess Auto tools are great they will do what you need. Seems to me some guys on here have forgot what it is like to be young and buy you first set of tools. I'll bet you at 15 they were still using dads tools just like I was. Keep up the good work.

Well put Vern. I've only really had the money for all the tools I wanted "(not necessarily needed"), in the last dozen years. Until then there was a lot of improvising.

Jonathan, I hear what everyone's saying about princess auto's tools.
Most of their handtools are offshore pieces of you know what but they will do for now.
For your budget you should also check canadian tire's weekly flyer. When their tools come on sale (which they do often) you can get better quality stuff for less money and most have lifetime warranty.

I started buying tools around your age and still have most of them.
Now, 15 years later I'm still buying tools every now and then. It never ends. smile

So true. And they start getting bigger and more expensive.

I totally agree.  If you are buying tools just for the sake of having them wait and buy good stuff as you can afford.  If you're in a pinch and need an oddball maybe go with Princess Auto or someone like that but the good tools over the long haul are a lot more enjoyable to use too.  The same goes for all the cordless stuff and air tools too.  Alot of my sockets are still the ones I bought as a teenager and they seemed expensive then but they were good and it took a few hours at 2.25 an hour.  Great to hear young peoples eagerness and I'm in no way trying to dampen anyone's spirit here.

i still use some of my dads tools, he just forgot that i have them!! I find you buy what you can and become friends with people with tools also!! i also think that in this hobby and especially with the people on this site you will have the help if and when you need it. We are all doing the same thing, and we all love it (i think were all nuts as well!!)
