drum to discs

was just wondering if there is any gm car that i could take the disc brake setup(spindles and everything) and mount it on the 59? I might go take a look at the wreckers and bring a measureing tape but thought you guys might have an idea as to what might fit if any. Im also lowering it .

I was going to ask why?   but decided not to...biggrin  My 66 has drum, and it stops well.. other than the bragging rights, I think that going to drum on a low powered street car is not always necessary...   I know I know  I am going to get blasted now.wink

ask away carl!! lol I just thought if there was an easy and cheap way (useing a wreckers and matching something up) to do this then while im in there why not. Im fine with the drums, they seem to stop fine (and thats not even with new shoes yet) and its not like its a fast car or powerfull, it was just a thought. I would never blast anyone either! LOL

I think disc brakes are cool!   but when I looked at cost versus performance on MY car.. I will not spend the money.. If you can get the parts to sway it cheap, you should (someday)...  My Rare 1 of 66 396Beaumont SD Conv had drum brakes, and it would pull you down from 100mph (once)  lol

Here's my 2 cents worth, drums work well, but are prone to "brake fade" when they get HOT. I was going to do the "disc thing" on Catalina, but became cost prohibitive, as no one makes a kit that will use 14" wheels & had just bought new Cragar's & tires!!! My car had a terrible pull since I bought it, I finally changed the frt. flex hoses, after changing everything else, & the hoses cured the pull. I only get brake fade on a long steep hill where you are on the brakes heavy for awhile, I try to go on & off pedal, to let them cool down abit in between applications, other that that, stops great!!!!   pete
