I'm looking to refinish a steering wheel for my 66. As a result I'm hoping to remove the 4 polished metal "rings" that are at the 2,4, 8 an10 oclock positions. It looks like they may almost be "spring loaded". Has anyone had any success in removing and replacing these? thx in advance...

Are you attempting to remove the steering wheel from the column?
I just finished removing the wheel on my 67 Impala and with the help of Chevy Talk found out that there were three screws on the back side of the steering wheel that had to be removed so that the center ring could be taken off. After that a steering wheel puller,(rented from Auto Source free.) worked just fine. Good luck.. Cliff

Nope, the wheel is already off. It's the designer trim on the wheel that I'm wondering if I can get off without damaging. (Attached is a picture of a similar wheel with the trim at 2, 4, 8 and 10 oclock.)
