1966 Beaumont SD "Gills"

I just noticed that 1964 Pontiac LeMans had "louvres" in front of the rear wheel well (rear 1/4 louvres) that, from the photos I have been able to find, look remarkably similar to to the ones on '66 SD's.

Has anyone ever compared these?  Are they the same?

If yes, they are reproduced and listed in the AMES catalogue for $14 each...

Note that the 1964 GTO's do not appear to have these louvres - only the LeMans.

If  nobody chimes in, I do know a fella who would have the answer (which I suspect is yes).  Seems to me he once mentioned that you would require 3 sets (as they use fewer) and have some left over?...

From what I see in the Ames GTO catalog, they sell them individually, so as a complete set is going to set you back a few bucks!

Let's see, 10 per side, times 2 times $14 each = $280 for a full set.

Not cheap, but if you needed to replace one or two, it isn't too bad.

The 64 Lemans louvers are the same as the 65 SD Beaumont ones and are much larger than the 66 sd beaumont ones. I ended up with a set of 66 SD Beaumont ones looking for the 64 Lemans ones. So, no the 64 Lemans ones aren't the same as the 66 sd Beaumont ones. I have a question, are the 66 Beaumont SD louvers the same as the  66 Acadian Canso ones and are they reproduced?

I am not sure I agree - the 65 SD louvers are quite wide I know, but they do not look like the ones on the 64 Lemans in the photos on this website:

http://www.cor-vette.com/pontiacs/1964_lemans.htm

These look a lot more like the ones on a 66 SD (and like the the 66 Canso) don't they?

I think these are the ones shown in the AMES GTO (G25) catalogue, on page 109, Part #J101B.

Oh - I saw the ones on a 66 Canso, but it wasn't where my Beaumont was so I could not compare exactly but they sure look alike.

If you have dimensions, I'd be happy to measure mine & compare..

My buddy has a 64 lemans and the louvers are the same as a 65 sd Beaumont, trust me. The fins that I bought that I thought were 66 Beaumont or Canso are 10 CM long or 4". I have a lot of 65 SD's and the fins are 12.5 CM or 5 ". I have bought 64 Leamans fins for my Beaumonts and there identical. As for that picture of that 64 lemans I think the picture makes them look bigger or they are the wrong ones.

Obviously I've never looked closely enough at the louvers on a 65 SD. For some reason I've always thought there were 3 wide gills rather than 3 sets of smaller ones. Guess in my mind I thought they were the same as the ones on the 67 SD.

On my Beaumont (66 SD) the louvres are 4 inches long.

The 66 Beaumont gills are listed on Dale's Muscle Car Parts:

I believe when this forum was quite new, there was a discussion on 66SD louvers and if I recall right, it was proven they are unique. However, that is close to 2 years ago and I could be wrong. I will see if I can find that thread...

The Acadian Canso (9) louvres are also found on the 1966 Pontiac Tempest front fenders and there are (15) per side, they can be ordered from Year One @ $8 each. I don' t know if they they are the same as the Beaumont SD, you can also find louvres on the roof pillars of 1968 or 1969 Grand Prix SSJ (4) per side.

Yes, 9783317 is the same on 66 SD Beaumont or Acadian. I just looked it up in the GM parts books.

here's the ad for the 65 SD louvers that I sourced out.. they are identical, but the casting number was different.. they are re-popped for 65 2+2.

Is there a replacement for the 67 Acadian SD louvers?

Hmm, don't think there has been any talk of that one.

I know I always thought they were 2+2 twins but someone proved that theory wrong here a while back.
