Grey Cup...

Since no one has started a thread on this one as we have done on the hockey side of things, I will start it off. What team are you guys rooting for even if your team didn't make it?

I will start it of by saying, go Green......... GO RIDERS GO!

Heartbreaker.........!!!! Coaching error caused us the game.... Besides the first missed field goal. Nothing feels so bad than losing a game when the other team comes from behind! But we did play an awesome game and for a team that was an absolute underdog, my hat goes off to them!!!

GO RIDERS GO!!!!!

Yeah it definitely was the 13th man.  A couple guys will have a long summer and a tough memory for life but the Grey Cup game is usually exciting and it sure didn't dissappoint.  Quite a momentum swing within  a couple plays.  That's why you play the game, you never know what's going to happen.

Any given Sunday, 73SC... Any given Sunday!! It is not like you say, we had it for the taking but it was a game given to them by a single miscue as Duval did miss the first attempt....... Does bite though.............!!

I was sure the Riders were going to take it after the way the first half went.

Once again, a great game, far superior to the vast majority of so called "Super" Bowls. Watching the game with my Dad is a tradition we do every year.smile

What really bugs me though about all the post game interviews and platitudes is no one ever acknowledges the role that luck or fate plays.

Let's face it, Montreal did not "win" this game, Saskatchewan "blew" it.  The game should have been over with Duval's missed first field goal attempt.  It was only a tremendous screw-up by the Sask coaching staff and players, who made an inexcuseable error for the 20th and championship game of the season and should have noticed that there was extra player on the field, that gave Duval an extra second chance.  The game should have been over the previous play and then no-one would be talking about this great comeback, blah, blah, blah.  It would have been how the big favourite Montreal had choked in the big game once again, going 1-7 in Grey Cups this decade.  If anyone on Montreal was truly honest, the first thing out of their mouths should have been we were lucky as heck that we were given a second chance to win a game that should have been over by Sask making a huge mental error.  People would be talking about Duval as the goat then, instead of how he "won" the game.

Montreal should have won by a touchdown because of the Sask. endzone interference ...
Then Sask. should have won because of the missed Montreal field-goal ...
But then Montreal squeaked by by a point on the field goal retry.

Great game (waaaaaay better than The Super Bowl, as always).
In the end: Montreal didn't really win, but Sask definately crapped out.

In hockey the play won't begin when there are too many men on the ice. The only way to get a penalty for that is a change on the fly. I say the referee blew it. Dumb rule that lets play start with too many players on the field imo.

Saskatchewan played a great game, but stopped playing with 40 seconds left.   While I wasn't impressed with Saskatchewan's final series, their punter got them out of a bind with a booming kick, and the returner bobbled it and Montreal was pinned down at their 34 yard line (I think it was the 34).  Basically, Saskatchewan was in good shape with 40 seconds left.   But the Riders blew it, and allowed Montreal to get within field goal range, and lost by one.  Game is 60 minutes long, not 59 minutes 20 seconds.

Re "Let's face it, Montreal did not "win" this game, Saskatchewan "blew" it."
If there wasn't a penalty on the final play and the game ended with Montreal missing the field goal, we would say "Let's face it, Sask did not "win" this game, Montreal "blew" it.

From my perspective it was great to see such an entertaining game and not be pulling for anyone in particular. Man, we've had some great Grey Cups!!!!!

Apparently 8,500,000 Canadians were tuned in to the game when it ended. That beats Super Bowl, and Academy Awards !
