Getting a Christmas Tree - Toronto style

First you get in your 4x4 and head into the lush forest known as Queen Street East. Beware of the large red and white vehicles that run along the tracks.

You look for a spot with an abundance of Balsam Firs trees. If you are lucky you can pull right up to the area.
IMG_5420.JPG

There are other folks there looking as well.

Woodsmen are at your beckon call.

You slap down $85 cold cash, you get a fresh cut and lift on the roof

Bring Jr. along to strap it on.  That's an 8 footer but the big GMC makes it look tiny.

Arrive home safely after the two mile trek back from the urban forest, ready to trim.

Ya he wanted $100 for it but since we have been getting them there for over 30 years he said he could let it go for $85. This place is a Toronto icon, CITY TV did a spot on it. It is an real anomoli in the City, a family business that is a nursery right on Queen, 5 minutes basically from the heart of downtown and the financial district. You can get anything there from firewood to pea gravel. Just odd for the big city.

Can never beat the smell of a fresh tree!  To me, that is one of the greatest parts of Christmas, and being able to recall the Christmases of my childhood and all the great memories, the smell  is always the same.  I will NEVER have an artificial tree, to me those things are an abomination!

Bought our tree in 1995 at Cullen Gardens for $240 ON A BOXING DAY SALE. it's a Vermont Spruce, one of the most realalistic ones I've seen, still looks good. I would say we got our "moneys worth" out of it if the cost is $ 85 bucks a yr. for a "real" one!!!hmmhmmhmmbiggrinbiggrinbiggrin

i did the real tree once, 25 or so years ago. picked pine needles out of everything for the next year. have had the same fake tree since and the same cheap angel on top. broke one branch this year, spun it around to the back figure i'm good for another 20.
