oil pan question....

Long story short, I have a '79 350 with a hole in the oil pan.  Has anyone ever dealt with Carquest pans????  Wondering about quality.  Also noticed some sites (JEGS) shows the listing fitting 55-79 sbc, but after talking to aguy at work, he claims that is not true they have different size front and rear seals????  Any truth to this... Not sure wether to try and fix this pan, buy a new one, or source a good used one???  Also has anyone tried the one piece oil pan gasket, are they any better than the original style 4pc set??????? confuse

Thanks in advance for your help guys.........

i think the guy at your work is partially right... there are different gaskets used, thick or thin rubber that come in the gasket set, but the pans are the same... should be basically a universal fit, the only thing you have to watch (and this is the same for sbc and bbc) is that certain pans (i believe the truck ones) have a step in the bottom of the pan (midway in the slope before the pickup area) this may interfere with the crossmember in most cars...

summit sells a steel pan replacement for $22... you could probably find one at a wrecking yard.... hopefully for the same price and the oem peice will have thicker flanges and probably a better seal...

this is my thought, but i'm certainly not an oil pan expert or around them all the time!!

The front seal is slightly different depending on the block, I think. Are you in BC? If you are anywhere near the lower mainland, I have an oil pan that you could have. I am using a 7 quart pan now.
