i don't remember them mentioning anything about HP. they said the automobile has never really changed till now. well not really in my books. still has wheels, motor and steering, evolution maybe. neat how the steering switches over. 10 to 15 years. and as you say, I'm not ready for the change.
The following thoughts are NOT mine. I got them as feedback on the above video from a classic car guy I know, in New Jersey. I've never known him to be shy with his words. ======================================================
It's nice to see that GM now has a driver. They unveiled the drive train assembly a few years ago at the Detroit Auto Show.
A not so bold prediction. There will be no GM in 5 years. Ed Whitacre and his new CFO will jettison all such nonsense as the hy-wire and the Volt and let the little guys push the technology envelope. GM will go for whatever they perceive as the mainstream.
There will be two lines of products. Chevrolet will sell to we, common folk, and Cadillac will sell to a much smaller but well-heeled demographic.
Not possible? What have the Japs done (VERY successfully) with their lines? Honda/Acura. Toyota/Lexus. Nissan/Infiniti. The Koreans (who are scared ****less of the PRC*) are also bringing out a luxury line that will kill Acura/Lexus/Infiniti sales volume.
Because of innovation, and the inability of companies like GM to capitalize on it, I betcha' we'll see a very fragmented auto industry the same as the early 1900's. Then there will be the inevitable consolidation and we'll all be driving the General Tzo, made by Hung Fat Motors, Ltd.
I just wish that SOMEBODY would put Government Motors out of its misery.
The dinosaur is dead. Somebody tell the head.
(* He's referring to the People's Republic of China)
Like I said, not my words, but interesting to contemplate. A bit more to identify his bias. Although he has a couple of very nice mid-60's Corvettes, he has Japanese daily drivers.
As for me, I continue to be amazed at Americans who so willingly surrender the automotive sector to everywhere else BUT North America. But that's just my out-of-touch, dinosaur, provincial thinking at play. I'll be forced to wisen up soon, no doubt.
As we argued on an earlier post, If you export your industry, so goes your standard of living. Check out the food that you buy. Is it really better to buy tomatos from mexico, corn from Bolivia, grapes from Rio, etc.... Just to develop farmland for more malls, and those F%$#@&g Wallmarts? Think about it. In the next 25-30 years we will be dependant on imported foods. Imagine a Canada that can no longer feed itself! Scared? You should be. Cows being fed god knows what, Who can imagine what kind of pesticides, I mean really, do any one of you really believe China will finally develop a conscience of any kind? The time is upon us gentelmen, Start spreading the word to your children, only by voting can we change this express train to hell that we are all on. I doubt in my lifetime will this be taken seriously. So I'm planning to be gone up North to a couple 100 acres with everything I'll need. Wood, fresh water, and room to have my own food source. Mark my words boys, the end of the good time are upon us.

nothing, nothing that was ever made here that is now available from someplace else is better than the product we made or are capable of making-dependance is a very bad thing.
