Out on the Trans Canada near Sackville N.B.  I witnessed a lot of races..  No one could out run the new 2 door post 66 Strato Chief  396-325 4 speed   It hooked up (the secret)

Chief  beat  66 Monaco 440 auto fenderwell headers (open) 3 out  of 5 runs   and same for 66 Fairlane 500 427-425 2 4bbls  and 66 Hemi Cornet out of Ont running on 1 4bbl     Strato Chief later got a 427-425 "under warranty confuse" lol

I can vouch that it wasn't a 327/275 with a powerglide with the stock gears!hmm

327  3 speed on column,  4:11 gears,  headers with exhaust cutouts open,  retread rear tires--  probably 825-14

That's it,  I'm putting the BB hood on hold for the 4:11 and the retreads...

you'll be much happier with the drivability of it the way it is right now.

Sorry, that was my late night attempt at trying to be funny. You're absolutely right, driveablility is number one. (Although the retreads would probably be an upgrade to my existing 22 year old radials.) Re the gears, if I were to do anything I think I would upgrade the PG to a 4 sp auto.
