The Olympic Torch Came To Town Today

The Olympic Torch came through Ingersoll Ontario this morning. The route traveled by the corner of my street so I thought I'd take a stroll down and take some photos. Unfortunately I was unable to get any information on the fellow who was carrying the torch. Boy, they sure go though a lot for this symbolic event. There were quite a few RCMP and OPP as well as many support vehicles. It looks like Coke is a huge sponsor as there were a number of Coke bannered vehicles.
Some pics:

So now I can add this experience to my "been there, done that' list.biggrin

Nice that you could walk to your corner to see it!

We watched it come through Burlington Todd. The wife and kid dragged me down to see it. The streets were jammed. I was actually very pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere, and in the end it gave me a very good feeling about being Canadian. I'd not felt that in a long time and I'm glad I went. The look on the face of the torch bearer was priceless, he positively beamed with pride.

Did you get your Winter Olympic metal Coke bottle?

Was there two full size black vans tailing behind stuffed with full on swat teams?

No just the convoy of support vehicles. Maybe they didn't feel it was needed in a hick town like ours!

My buddy from out here in Calgary is one of the CP Rail guys that got picked and is driving across Canada with the Torch. I guess they've offered the drivers to carry the torch, but they won't say when or where. He says there is a lot of Security that most won't even notice, surrounding them.
Hes having a great time, but wishes it was a warmer time, as he tries to meet some of the "car guys" hes met online over the years.

What are the torches made out of? I couldn't tell from where I was standing.

Some sort of plastic/carbonfibre. If you are close to me, bring the kids and they can have their picture taken with it if you'd like.

The bodies for the RBC and Coke trucks were made in Burlington.

Torch is coming thru Collingwood, Wasaga Beach and Creemore tomorrow. It's on my must see list for tomorrow. May actually see it more than once as it passes thru the area.
