My Wife woke me up at 12:30 this morning screaming "THE SHOP IS ON FIRE".

If that doesn't wake you up nothing will. So i scrambled to look out the back window and saw lights flickering in the window of the shop and off the roof of the little shed to our left so i knew it wasn't the big shed and deduce they were reflection from the street. As i ran to the front of the house i got my wife to call 911. as she was dialing i figured out the power wire spanning next door was aflame about a 100 ft from my front door. i watched it explode and fall to the ground at the same time as all the power went out in the subdivision across the street from us. plus the wire still continue to burn from both ends. one pole is on our property about 50 ft from the front door. police showed up within 10 min. firefighter shortly after. i went to bed at 1:30 and Hydro wasn't there yet. Kat said they were cutting trees when she went to bed at 3:00. I went out this morning and figured a tree between my neighbour and his other side came down on the wire. everything was fixed except for the burn marks on the ground and a pile of logs

Wow, not much gets you out of bed quicker than a statement like that.

Glad to hear it's all ok Steve. I was scared what I was going to read when I opened this thread.

i've always been very fire conscious after serving with the navy and being trained to fight fires. after all how much water can you put on a fire before you sink. i was surprised how much damage a tree branch could do to a power wire, if anything it made me take a good look at the power wires around our house and neighbourhood. i think my ticker has slowed down a little now.
