No need to knock down a young woman bearing the torch. I believe it is your right as a Canadian to protest the waste of money the Olympics have become, but don't be hitting the torch bearers.
That will not garner the protesters any support.

Guelph Police arrested and charged 19-year-old Brittney Simpson of Kitchener with assault. She is to appear in court in February.

Let's hope that no plea bargain is entertained. She requires a criminal record to help her grow up.

Her right to protest stops at the end of my nose. furious

I think after the numbers from the complete waste of money Games come through and the government removes some public services to balance the huge expences of these games,  you will be lucky if it's not a person in a tower with a rifle. It won't be me because I understand what's wrong or right but somebody will tip who is worse off.

I really don't care at all about the Olympics myself but I care even less for people doing stuff like that to make a point.

I may be opposed to a lot of things but I wouldn't do my cause any good if I acted like that.

Were you talking to me? If so, you may not have understood what I meant.

You're definitely not alone Steve.

Why anyone would want to carry the torch is beyond me - HOWEVER, any dips--t pulling a stunt like this "protester" should be clubbed with the torch! furious

( Bombardier designed torch, I believe- tax$$ at work!) no

I'd definately carry the torch if I had the opportunity. (My uncle was a goalie with the Cdn olympic team back in '52 when they won the gold.) I would however "opt out" of hosting the games. What's even worse I think is Edmonton's bid to host Expo. We have a great community, but why would anyone want to vacation here (other than the mountains 3 hours away?)
Finally, it I was attacked while carrying the torch, they would be lucky of they didn't ignite.

People are pissed off at the amount of services being cut and the never ending money pit the Olympics have become.
Violence at anti-Olympic protests? Unfortunately, I think it will get worse the closer it gets to BC.
For instance Kelowna BC is spending $104,000 for a ONE DAY party for the torch all the while services like legal aid and child protection ministry budgets get slashed.

But, the real blame lies on the shoulders of BC itself. We have elected the current BCLiberal regime three times now. Not only that, the last provincial election in May 2009 saw a 49% voter turnout. So, who's to blame? Yes people are upset, people who can not cope will probably get violent, but it is the electorate of BC's fault. The time for anger, protests and action was before the last provincial election.

Can anyone tell me what is wrong with the Calgary Olympic facility that we the Canadian taxpayer built in 1988? AND has it ever been paid for, or do we still owe on it?
I think it is disgraceful the way homeless have been treated in Vancouver to make way for the Olympics. Instead of helping some of them get back on their feet money was lavished on idiotic facilities instead of re-using the one we already built. I could go on....but....

it's not the Olympics that's the disgrace...It's the BIG business that the Olympics has become that is the disgrace... it's not about supporting the athletes anymore...hasn't been for a long time.

If you could feel the feeling I got carrying the torch you probably wouldn't feel this way. If everyone got to experiance this, I doubt that there would be anymore conflict.Even on a global scale. I paid to keep my torch, so I dunno about tax dollars. Protesting something that is supposed to unite the globe, well I'm not sure how to respond to this. You want to protest something, protest the Mcguinty Liberals, How much money has been squandered by these people? These problems started with Trudeau, In my opinion, anyone that has ever voted Liberal has nothing to complain about. twocents.gif

yes it is.

one immigrant (nice guy) I worked with at the Altas always voted Liberal-he thought it was the right thing to do-everyone does ! anyway I ask "do you believe in Abortion ?"

now I don't care-you can list everything and anything but if a religous guy at the polls could be asked that question before he checks the box.
