Require assistance tracking down my old 66 Beaumont

Guys, how would one go about looking for a once owned car? Or to find if it's met the crusher (heaven forbid!).

In my picture is my 66 in the 80's that I got from Grandfather. He bought it new the year I was born. Didn't know any better and got rid of it in about 87, wanted to put a 283 in it (had the straight six) but mechanic said the frame might not take it.
Don't know if it's met the crusher or not, cop friend ran the reg but no luck.
I wonder if its gone nowno
Model 73517, Ser#012479, engine#36487

How can a track it down if it's still out there?

ICBC in BC archives old registration and you have to send them a letter to prove that you own the car and they will purge there records to get the last known registered owner. It won't show up in a normal vin check at your insurance office. That's a place to start.

if you ran the serial at the MTO and its gone-its gone. Everything seems to be on record from 1982 up-you had it registered in 87-only other think would be if it left the province-if the frame wouldn't handle a 283 in 1987-23 years later it can't look too good-look for a nice solid similar one to bring back your youth with.

going by your Serial # your 66 would have been built near the end of production

likely 2 or 3rd week in June 1966

your 12479
the last car we have is June 28th and its 12734

i have seen Beaumont Year production #s as 12827 cars built

Not in BC. I bought a Beaumont off a guy who had owned and insured his car 20 years earlier and when he went to get a copy of the reg for the tranfer papers they couldn't find it in the system. It was archived and I had to apply for a lost regie, mail the paperwork to him, and he signed the papers. I still had to get it noterized. That's why I keep all my regies current. I have papers for all my cars, even the parts cars.

Thanks for all your feedback. Yeah, reliving the youth is basically the idea.
The red top was added right after it was bought by my Dad, for his Dad.
My dad was a GM parts manager for many years in Toronto, starting his career at West York motors and finishing at Hearn on the Queensway (gone now). He worked a couple of years at Wheels Covers Unltd on the Queensway before retiring.

Perhaps the advice to look for a similar one would be best. Kinda prefer a survivor in good shape with a 283/327 etc and maybe a standard tranny. Convertible is always a nice bonus. Gramps would understand! biggrin

Police have alot more power than ICBC though

the vin number put through the data base will tell if the car is stolen in canada or the usa,

if nothing comes back at all it usually means the car is gone, but its not 100% because

the vehicle registration is done by each province, so say for example the car

went to another province , u would have to know which one to find the new owner,

a good example of this are cars that are bought in michigan and brought into ontario,

in my area they have to be inspected at the local canadian tire to ensure they conform

to ontario standards before they can be registered, if u run the VIN, it comes up

as nothing, the vin assist progam will tell u what the car should be by decoding the number

but basically the car is in limbo and only comes back to life once its registerd. also for

some reason, having the info on the plates that were on the car when u owned it can work

sometimes, the mto sometimes is better at tracking plates, even the old blue plates that

havnt been used in years can be helpful, because they used to go with the car and

when they switched over to the current system late 1973 i think? , many of the plates

went from reg to the car to reg to the person, and your mto history shows all the

plates u ever owned under the system and ocassionally one of the old ones appears

also the cars that are from some other area say michigan as mentioned above

just appear in the system when they are registered in ontario, with no

indication where it came from,
