Well here it is at the Christmas break, We started back today with a 7-0 win over the hapless Aces. So far the team I coach has 2 more wins now than they got all last season and more points. Goals against were 150 last year too so we are doing a lot better.

Just before Christmas we lost to Willowdale, we were missing our first line center (little guy on right in photo) and a top D, that one hurt otherwise we would have some more space there. We also tied the North York Knights, so could have would have should have would put us tied in third. Anyway our percentage GF Average tells the story, we have a third place record. You can also tell that when we lose it is close, usually a one goal game.

One big plus is that we have beaten the first place team Markham so we can beat everyone in the loop. Fourteen games left in the regular season, they are all important now.

Simon on the far left plays D and today he stripped the puck from an attacker at our blue line right in front of our bench so I hollered to him "Wheel Simon Wheel" and he takes off dances through the entire team and scores our first goal unassisted!

Practice Sunday morning, next game vs. knights, a big 4 pointer. One of my goalies broke his wrist snowboarding. Luckily I have a practice goalie in my house, he's 20 but he's suiting up in the morning, the boys will have fun shooting at one of their coaches.

Thanks Bill, We are going to give it our best shot. The powers that be have asked me to coach the team next season as well. We will see how far we can go. Honestly I need to make about 4 changes with some upgrades to battle it out with the top two teams, but anything can happen.

Playoffs start today. Best of 5 in quarter final round. we went on a tear since Christmas, 11-3-1 and captured 3rd place on last day of regular season. That was a great accomplshment.

At Christmas we set two goals, to get 22 wins which would double last season and to make third place. They were both stretches BUT we did it.

Game two we battle through a penalty with 1:22 to go and their goalie out to win 4-2.
Series is first team to 6 points so it is 4-0 for Flames. Next game Wednesday night March 3rd.

Sounds like you are peaking at the right time. Like I just mentioned on Elroy's thread the playoffs is a whole new season and it really doesn't matter what happened previous as long as you make them. You definetely have a tight bunch of teams there so it will just be a few little things that will make the difference. Good luck.

The team has either not made the playoffs or been eliminated in round one from the past 4 seasons. One boy told me he has never played in a plyoff round until now.

We are playing Aeros. Tomorrow I am starting a different goalie than the previous two wins. He has a twin brother on the Aeros so I'm giving him a shot.

We are taking one game at a time. I am sure they will push us hard tomorrow.

Excitment for sure, we had a few fire drills last night in our zone when they were giving the last push with less than 4 minutes to go.

Calm is the operative word. I try to be calm and confident then it transends to the boys. I almost burned my time out at about 4 minutes to go but my son is on the bench with me, the cool goaltender experience and  he shook me off when I asked his advice. He was right, so it is a team effort right through the ranks. That's my message too we play for the team not ourselves.

Good luck with the playoffs. Our team is playing in between periods at the Hamilton Bulldogs game this weekend. Our 1st tournament is next weekend. The senior tykes are really exited about it. Truthfully, so am I.

Looks like scheduler has us going on Saturday afternoon. That means I get in a practice Friday night. Rink we are in is a good one for us, Scarborough Gardens, an old barn that I played in, probably erected just after WWII, lots of character. It gives me a good feeling. smile
