Some real progress to finally report gents! I have achieved my objective from about 7 years ago in that I can actually move it in and out of the garage under its own power!
In fact this lovely morning while the frost is still keeping my road hard I took it for its first road test to my brothers and back. Lots of torquey zip, lots of banging and clanging as the newly rebuilt front fenders are bolted on the body pretty loosely, a strange look from a guy out walking his dog, and a bad vibration that may be from excess rpms (as I have no tach hooked up yet.) But lots of promise!
And no cops noticing me yet!
This spring is going to be fun!
Here's a pic or three. A lot of stuff to do yet.
By the way the magnetic decal is from an extinct Gov department I used to work for. Seems to suit it.
Hey Mark it was only about a mile and I was not sure which gear to be in without a tach. (You really cant tell the rpm by the sound) so I i am hoping the vibration was from revving too high. They say those engine like to run at about 2500 rpm so the next job is to hook up the engine/battery monitor system. Without that I have no idea how much power I used. I do have an ammeter and it was touching 200 amps occasionally.
When it was all said an done the system hookup wasn't all that complicated, its just that the schematic and the advice I had been getting from the kit seller was so shitty and useless. It was only recently that I got finally a experienced guy on the line that sent me a simplified schematic that I could actually follow. Made all the difference.

Good work Ken. That guy walking was likely surprised you were so quiet?

The city of Charlottetown is now running a fleet of electric schoolbuses. They are so quiet they play a tune when moving slowly. I was driving beside one doing 60kmh yesterday and all you hear are the tires on the pavement.
Mine isn't all that quiet just yet. There is a lot of banging and clattering from the sheetmetal and the doors at least in my rough driveway. Once I do a final alignment, tighten it all up, and put some weather stripping on the doors I hope it will be a lot quieter.
I've been taking progressively longer test drives (still sort of illegally) but the other night I just barely made it back to the yard. Still trying to figure just how much charge these batteries will take.
I'm going to have to put it on hold for a while now as there is some house issues I have to get to this spring.
