Buy is the way to go. Leave the restore till you win the Lotto

If you buy make sure you can still mess with it a bit, isn't that the fun part, finding parts and adding options, personalizing to your own taste?

You cannot restore them, for less, than a built car..     It depends on whether, you want to drive them, or work on them.
If you have the place to restore one, that changes your choices...  Lots of guys never wrench on them,  and lots of guys never drive them...

In the future i'll buy to drive. Right now i'm happy with having a car i can drive and can work on. I can learn what to do on a car that parts are available pretty readily for if i screw something up.

Does the restore car have any special meaning for you? If not, easier to buy one already done. Just be careful.

You can usually buy a restored car for about 50% of what it cost to restore in the current market situation. Shop for what you want, narrow it down to 2 or 3 then start negotiating. I see a lot of over priced cars on the market, but the guys that really want to sell vs. the guys who just want to talk about how great their ride is compared to all others are pretty easy to figure out.

If you can't do the work yourself, buy. I put mine together bit by bit so it's still cheaper for me to build. It all depends if you have a good project car for cheap that's complete.

I agree, that it depends how much you can do yourself... its like that with anything i do, i prefer to build everything myself, whether its a car or a house... i like to learn new things and take pride in doing them very well...

what gets you excited? do you want to get your hands dirty working on a car, or having it disassembled for many years? or do you want some instant gratification with something turnkey?... i dont think i could build my own car now, i dont have the time for it anymore, so i'm looking to buy something, and the prices are reasonable for finished cars given how much labour costs now! but at the same time, i have hard time trusting other peoples work...

if you like to 'tinker' even a finished or driver car will be like owning a house, there is ALWAYS something to do on it!!!

As a restorer for the past 35 years I have to say that buying a turn key car is significantly cheaper.
