Brake drum resto question

I finally did some work in the garage today! I pulled a drum off the 59 Dodge to check out the brakes. No real surprises - the shoes look good. The drum has surface rust on the outside and some surface rust on the machined surface. There isn't any pitting on the machined surface though. I want to glass bead blast the outside of the drum. Would it hurt to hit the machined surface with the bead blaster or should I just lightly sand it?

Thanks
Todd

Personally I have always used coarse paper but I have no experience with blasting.

I would think it would be fine as well. However, if you just manually scuff most of it off, my guess would be the rest would be worn off in no time after a few brake applications.

Thanks. I'll have to post a photo of the funky front brake design on these cars. Two wheel cylinders per wheel! Chrysler called them "Total Contact Brakes"
