Found this picture on Kijiji of a 66 Olds Cutlass firewall. Notice the "RX" above the heater box that we usually see on Acadians near the heater hoses.
Here is the untouched Trim Tag on my Oshawa 1967 Chevelle. Mine also has C2 in from the Trim Tag, just like the first picture of the Granada Gold 67 at the start of this thread.
Mine also say 2-12-13 like the Gold one, so the bodies came from Fisher Body the same day. My car was completed and shipped December 15th, 1966.
My firewall markings: Sideways "R", then written over top of it is "xPRB" or "xPR8", then beside that is "307-1-8", then below that is "7447" (which denotes a 2 dr. sports coupe).
Does the 307-1-8 match up to anything on the cars cowl tag, or build date?
I am trying to figure out if there is a connection to what those numbers mean

MY BEAUMONT HAS 4 STUDDED TIRES AND 2 BLOCKHEATERS......AND LOTS OF OIL UNDERNEATH. The other one has a longer roof.

Maybe it has something to do with the positraction? Not a lot of info. out there!
It is a little plastic part (like a gear reducer) that screwed on between the speedo and the cable under the dash. As to why some cars had them and some didn't I don't know. Although a guy from Australia says this :
I recently received the build sheet for my RHD Australian delivered 1964 Impala Wagon from George Zapora at GM Canada:
It is interesting that they state that it's 1 of 3 RHD export models. Given that I've owned two 64 wagons over the years and seen another 30 or so I can only assume it's 3 in that particular paint/trim/engine combination. Anyone have thoughts on this?
I'm delighted that the engine number matches and the majority of the options are still intact. Bad news is that the paint code (SP4813) is listed as Special Order. Before it was stripped to bare metal I was convinced it was Saddle Tan/Ermine White Roof but I'm now none the wiser. Anyone have experience with these special order codes?
With respect to the options, I have some queries with:
B70: Cover I/P Upper Pad - When I bought the car it had vinyl stuck across the top of the dash which was cut in around the speaker grill - to me it didn't look factory. I'm therefore not sure if this refers to this vinyl on top or the large dash pad that is mounted around the front of the all RHD pontiac/chev dashboards.
V59 - Extra Tool Equipment (Export) - what tools did they put in the Australian delivered cars?
X09 - Speedo Adaptor - I'm assuming some sort of adaptor to account for right hand drive configuration as it's a MPH dash.

I have some on my other GM cars. Some on the frame and rear ends. What did they us as a applicator for these numbers? Brian
Wax marker or china marker Brian. You can buy them at a office supply store in various colours. All my markings happen to be in yellow.

Thanks Darryl, The markings on the 78 Corvette are in white, some on the frame and gas tank area. My 64cs and Olds 442 are in yellow like your car. When I was probing the inner driver fender on the 67 Toronado years ago I found a old non-chrome and rusty 12pt, 1/2-9/16 wrench with GM stamped on it. Must have been left behind by a assembly line person and because I have owned the car from new not from me. This car has no china markings on it. Wish I could find it to post a picture. Brian
I've seen these markings on various cars. I was wondering what the actual "value" of these markings might be? (not a smart alec remark). I was told that they are of significance with "totally unrestored" vehicles..,,original paint,.. etc. Do the numbers have any other significance or value?
Why would someone hesitate to paint over them on a vehicle that is being restored.?
I agree with the "markings" and "paint dabs" and date codes on parts, etc. on a "Historically significent car"
Anything else is a waste of time and money
They didn't have the same guy on the assembly line 24/7 just doing markings... sometimes there was 2 shifts sometimes guys called in sick
X09, speedo adapter, seemed to be really common on 63/64 cars, my 64 impala 283 auto has it, also my 64 beaumont 283 auto does too. both 3:08 non-posi. It has nothing to do with metric or export sales, could have been tire size/trans/rear combos, could have been a flaw from the speedo manufaturer, nobody knows.

Ummm.....that guy from Australia would be me!
My suspicion now is that it was to take into account the tyre size as mentioned.
While I'm at it, here's the firewall markings on my Oshawa Impala wagon - they are very faint just above the right side valve cover. SP...RD with a yellow "O" over the earth strap??? An abbreviation of "Special Order" perhaps given that's what's on the build sheet under paint code.
Unfortunately I have obscured the rest of it through my careless use of duct tape over the 1 1/3 inch holes on the firewall. To this day I still can find any plugs to fill them.

Thanks Carl. I have 2 right hand drive Oshawa Impalas that I am doing factory original restorations on - wagon first then 4 door hardtop, starting September. Look forward to contributing here (remembering that it's a poncho site!) and very happy to assist anybody with RHD information.
I thought I would post up here again regarding my right hand drive Oshawa 1964 Impala Wagon. Yesterday I rubbed back the firewall with fine steelwool and thinners in preparation for paint. All of the firewall markings started to show up clearly so I went back over them with a chinagraph pencil before putting on color and clear. They have once again been camouflaged but are visible up close and at the right angle.
The "SP4813" is in fact the special order paint code - obviously a message to the painters from further up the line.
I am 3 months into a very detailed factory correct restoration and have been documenting everything in great detail - is there any interest here in a detailed build thread..?
