69 Pontiac Acadian SS

New to the site.  I bought this car last summer.  I always wanted to buy a Nova because I thought there were no more Acadians around.  My brothers all had muscle cars and the one friend that had and Acadian changed it to a Nova.  So when I saw this car I couldn't pass it up.  It was destined for the US and was a car of the month here in 2008.  I talked to a fellow member at a car show and told him this car will never leave Canada (except for Woodward Dream Cruise).  After 25 years good things come to those who wait.

Wow!  I was going to ask if that was original, but then I thought there was no way.  Very cool!

Its an original SS Acadian and Its going to stay that way.Its  kind of funny when people tell you that there is no such thing as an Acadian SS,and when you prove it to them they all of a sudden are speechless.

Is that the only year for the SS Acadian ? That is so cool, I never new about the SS . Never to old to learn.

I thought that was a beautiful car when I first saw it featured. It's only more beautiful now, and far more rare than a Nova SS. Why anyone would want to disguise an Acadian as a Nova is beyond me.

I wonder why GM Canada didn't stay with the Sport Deluxe designation on the Acadians? There were the Impala SS, Chevelle SS and Nova SS, so why not Beaumont SD and Acadian SD? To use SS implied some kind of connection to Chevrolet rather than the "possible" connection to Canadian Pontiac.
confuse

This gets more confusing all the time. My head hurts. wink

Anyway, really nice car that anyone would be proud to own.

Beautiful Acadian Glenn, I saw it before you owned it in Hamilton.  Just one question, that I guess has been talked about before but I don't understand your
thinking.

Why is it so terrible for an individual in the U.S. to own/buy
a Canadian car?
why the negative towards U.S owners. Lots of "us" appreciate these cars just as much as auto enthusiasts in Canada. In fact I have been to car shows in Canada with my Yellow 68 SD and had no discussions with anyone about the car being anything special and when I am in the US i am bombarded with questions and positive feedback. Just don't get the "this car has to stay in Canada mentality. ok, I got that off my chest ........any thoughts?

I do not care who owns our Canadian built cars as long as they are taken care off and appreciated. After all are we not all just temporary owners of material items until we pass on and the items in this case cars move on to someone else. I have nothing but respect for our Americian neighbours as they are the real leaders of our world.

True, but I believe they were still under the control of GM Canada. And, if they could slap an Acadian emblem on (in place of Nova), they could install a SD in place of SS, no?

smile

SS is so Chevrolet. Doesn't make sense. confuse

I'll be sorry I replied for the feedback-but I'll say your correct-if anything Canadian Pontiacs got noticed because Americans bought them-for years I had big block beamounts and people would always say "nice car too bad its not a chevelle" then Muscle Car review did the article on the blue 67 ragtop next thing you know Americans are looking to buy them-when a car is for sale-its available to the buyer with the money if a Canadian would like to own it or "keep it in Canada" then they should buy it-

in the late 1990's when the dollar was strong tons of cars were exported to the U.S. for the premium-or you could buy it here at the adjusted price which is what raised the prices in our market. Lets not forget how many American cars came up here in the 1980's from the south in favour of our rusty ones.

At the end of the day its car car-own it, drive it, enjoy it, show it, whatever-people sell classic cars to movie productions so they can be rolled/blown up etc... lets be happy Americans have been preserving them.

by the way-nice car - this is a beautiful SS Acadian

-interesting point Bob makes about the "SS" seeing Acadian was "SD' when assembled in Canada earier, then "SS" when out of Canada
